Coming to you from our good friend, Pye Jirsa, with SLR . Lounge, this great video tutorial will show you five simple yet effective concepts for taking portraits in the park. Parks are great for portrait photography as they provide a lot of natural backdrop conducive to creating interesting photos. As you’ll see, one of the best setups is backlit portraiture. One thing you should consider is bringing along a small flash and adjustment tool or reflector to bring some light back to your subject. You’ll probably want to overexpose your photo to avoid blurring that yellow background, and in doing so you may end up underexposing your subject, sometimes by a considerable margin. Instead of degrading the image by pulling the shadows up too much, getting a more balanced exposure from the start results in a better final image. Check out the video above for the full synopsis from Jirsa.
