2024 Farmers Insurance Open odds, picks, field, predictions: Expert fading Patrick Cantlay at Torrey Pines

Max Homa will try to successfully defend his title when he tees off in the 2024 Farmers Insurance Open beginning on Wednesday at Torrey Pines Golf Course in San Diego. The 33-year-old Homa has six career PGA Tour victories. Four of those have come in his home state of California, including last year’s Farmers Insurance Open, which he won by two strokes. He is one of seven past champions competing in this year’s tournament. 

According to the latest 2024 Farmers Insurance Open odds, Homa is listed at 12-1 to repeat. Xander Schauffele is the 10-1 favorite, just ahead of Patrick Cantlay (11-1), Collin Morikawa (11-1) and Homa (12-1). Min Woo Lee (+2000) and Ludvig Aberg (+2000) round out the top six choices in the Farmers Insurance Open field. One surprise: Nejad is completely fading Patrick Cantlay, who’s the co-second choice in the odds at 11-1. Ranked No. 6 in the world, Cantlay is coming off arguably his worst season on the PGA Tour. In 21 events in the 2022-23 season, he failed to win once. It was just the second season he failed to win on the PGA Tour since 2017.

Cantlay has had three previous starts at the Farmers Insurance Open, with his best finish being a 51st-place showing in 2018. He missed the cut in his other two starts. “Given the current state of his game and his lack of good course history, I simply think +1100 is too short,” Nejad told SportsLine.

However, Nejad is bullish on budding star Ludvig Aberg, who is listed at 20-1 in the Farmers Insurance Open odds. The 24-year-old Swede has had a meteoric rise. A year ago at this time, he was ranked No. 3,073 in the world and still playing college golf at Texas Tech. Now, Aberg is ranked a career-best No. 29.
