2024 College Football Transfer Portal Watchers: RB Dylan Edwards leaves Colorado

The transfer season is in full swing College footballagain.

The spring transfer portal officially opened on April 16, allowing players to move with spring ball or even during their team’s spring training.

Which players will be on the move this season and which players have found a new home?

Let’s take a look at the stars and notables who are trying things out and making moves.

Iowa QB Deacon Hill

Hill took over starting quarterback duties for the Hawkeyes when high-profile transfer addition Cade McNamara tore his ACL in the fifth game of the season against Iowa. Hill struggled, however, as Iowa’s anemic offense under coordinator Brian Ferentz drew national scorn even as the Hawkeyes’ defense became one of the best in the nation, putting Iowa reaches the Big Ten championship game. Hill had 1,152 passing yards with a 48.6 completion percentage, five touchdowns and eight interceptions last season.

Colorado RB Dylan Edwards

Edwards, a former four-star, is the first notable high school recruit to drop his commitment to the Buffaloes after Deion Sanders took over Colorado’s program in December 2022, thanks in large part to a long-standing relationship with Sanders from Edwards’ youth football days. Edwards then impressed in his first college game, posting 159 yards of total offense and scoring four touchdowns in Colorado’s dramatic 45-42 loss to TCU in Fort Worth . Although Edwards cooled off after that, he still led Colorado in rushing with 321 yards on the ground and Sanders praised him as a key part of the Buffaloes’ 2024 offensive plans most recently last week. Edwards, of Derby, Kansas, has been connected to programs in his home state as possible destinations, Kansas And Kansas State. He had made a commitment Notre Dame before moving on to “Coach Prime.”

Before Ohio State RB Dallan Hayden ARRIVE Colorado

The rising teenager is is said to have added to the influx of transfer talent joined Deion “Coach Prime” Sanders’ show in Colorado. Hayden, who rushed for 553 yards and five touchdowns in 2022, doesn’t have much of a chance to carry in 2023 as he only has 19 carries. The four-star recruit from the Class of 2022 will likely see his carries decrease as Tre’Veyon Henderson back to Columbus, while before Miss Ole star Quinshon Judkins transferred to the school earlier this season.

Miami RB Henry Parrish Jr.. ARRIVE Miss Ole

Parrish returned to where he began his college career and gave Lane Kiffin a needed veteran in his front office after Quinshon Judkins transferred to Ohio State. Parrish ran for 819 yards and five touchdowns at Ole Miss from 2020-2021, then ran for 1,238 yards and 10 touchdowns at Miami from 2022-2023. Now, he has returned to Oxford for his final year of university eligibility.

Florida State CB Greedy Vance Jr. ARRIVE USC

Vance had three interceptions last season and anchored a USC secondary that was one of the worst in college football last season, leading to the departure of defensive coordinator Alex Grinch and coach fullback Donte Williams. However, the Trojans’ defense looked much improved under new defensive coordinator D’Anton Lynn during the team’s spring game, and now that group adds an experienced addition is Vance, who started five games for the Seminoles last season and had 71 tackles and 12 passes defended.

Pitt DE Dayon Hayes, Ohio DT Rayyan Buell And Texas OT Payton Kirkland ARRIVE Colorado

Deion Sanders and Colorado got some trench help on Sunday, receiving commitments from three offensive and defensive linemen.

Hayes is the most notable name of the group. He joined Colorado after leading Pitt in tackles for loss (10.5) last season, adding 45 total tackles, four sacks and six hurries. He was considered by some talent evaluators to be the best defensive back in the portal at the time of his commitment as he entered his fifth season of eligibility.

Buell has been productive at Ohio over the past two seasons, recording 39 tackles and 6.5 sacks. Meanwhile, Kirkland is a four-star recruit in the Class of 2023.

Michigan State DT Simeon Barrow Jr.

Barrow started ten matches for Spartans last fall and made 30 career starts in East Lansing over three seasons.

Colorado CB Cormani McClain

McClain is one of the top overall prospects in the 2023 class and made a very late move to Colorado shortly after Deion Sanders took over as head coach there. McClain found playing time inconsistent and even received a public reprimand from Sanders about his practice habits during his freshman season though Buffalo‘ Defensive depth at the back is limited. However, McClain seemed to respond well to Sanders’ tough love and saw more game action as the season progressed and his play improved, eventually got four appearances. That said, it appears McClain has decided to leave Boulder and with his elite five-star prospect profile coming out of high school, he should attract a lot of interest.

Oregon State RB Damien Martinez

Martinez is having perhaps the best season of anyone who has put his name in the college football transfer portal when it reopens on Tuesday. He has been a key factor in helping Oregon State advance the Pac-12 over the past two seasons, with 2,167 rushing yards and 16 touchdowns on 355 attempts since the start of 2023. Martinez initially decided to stay in Corvallis as head coach Jonathan Smith departed for Michigan State, but will now enter the portal as one of the most proven players available. Martinez is reportedly prepared to visit several Power 5 schools including Arizona, Mississippi State, Tennessee, Kentucky and Miami.

USC CV Jason Zandamela

Despite the growth of the transfer portal in recent years, a true freshman transfer before his first collegiate season is virtually unknown outside of a significant coaching change. However, one of the top overall prospects in USC’s 2024 recruiting class is making it despite head coach Lincoln Riley and offensive coordinator/offensive line coach Josh Henson still being Very much entrenched in Los Angeles. Zandamela, a four-star originally from Mozambique, is essentially restarting its recruiting process all over again.

Wisconsin QB Nick Evers

Evers, the top quarterback recruit in the 2022 class, excited fans when he moved to Wisconsin to join new head coach Luke Fickell. However, Evers struggled to break through and never seriously competed for the starting quarterback job during his year-plus in Madison, and now he has left the team. Badger that has never appeared in a game for them.

Iowa OT Superintendent Kadyn

Just a few months after moving to Iowa, Proctor returned to the portal, according to many reports. Proctor is said to have a “no contact” mark next to his name, as it is believed he will move back Alabama. The 2023 five-star recruit transferred out of Alabama following Nick Saban’s retirement in January.

Pennsylvania WR KeAndre Lambert-Smith

One of the top receivers in the Big Ten is on the move. Lambert-Smith is said to be entering the transfer portal after not playing in Penn State’s spring game on April 13. The fifth-year wideout has 126 career receptions for 1,721 yards and 11 touchdowns, recording 53 receptions passing for 673 yards and four touchdowns last year.

Louisville RB Peny Boone

Boone is on the move again. Fifth year return is said to be entering the transfer portal second time in four months. Boone, who began his college career at state of Maryland before playing the past two seasons at Toledo, transferred to Louisville earlier in the season. His 1,400 rushing yards were eighth best in the FBS last season, winning the MAC Offensive Player of the Year award.

Texas A&M S Jacoby Mathews

Another Aggie is out of the portal, with Mathews joining the group of several players seeking transfers since Mike Elko became Texas A&M’s head coach earlier in the offseason. Considered a top-100 recruit in the Class of 2022 by 247 Spots, Mathews had 42 combined tackles and one interception last season.

Michigan WR English Karmello

The former four-star recruit is entering the portal after one season in Ann Arbor, according to many reports. English had just one reception, a 4-yard touchdown, in his freshman season with Michigan.
