2023 US Open purse, bonuses: Payouts, winnings for Wyndham Clark, field from record $20 million fund

The 2023 US Open has come to the Los Angeles Country Club as the city hosts its first major championship in 75 years. Needless to say, the amount raised is a far more substantial sum than three quarters of a century ago as a record $20 million will be granted on Sunday.

Representing a $2.5 million increase from last year and a $7.5 million increase from 2021, the US Open’s prize pool is the largest in the history of the national championship. This is also the largest amount of the three major championships taking place this year. The Masters put in $18 million, while the PGA Championship had $17.5 million.

At the US Open 2022, Matt Fitzpatrick not only won his first major title, but also $3.15 million. This year’s champion, Wyndham Clark, will get the winner’s check for $3.6 million in his bank account (well, tax deducted). That’s the same amount awarded to winners of field-wide designated events on the PGA Tour schedule. Scottie Scheffler’s Player Championship win is still honored as the highest paying day of the year as he raked in $4.5 million from a $25 million purse at TPC Sawgrass.

The USGA is also very generous. Not only will everyone who made the weekend at LACC be compensated, but all 76 professionals who failed to make the cut will also receive $10,000.

Rick Gehman, Greg DuCharme, Kyle Porter and Patrick McDonald passed the tough test as Wyndham Clark won the US Open on Sunday. Follow and listen to The First Cut on Apple Podcasts and Spotify.

Let’s see how the payouts for the 2023 US Open will be distributed among the players who have qualified.
