2023 Players Championship odds, favorites: Rory McIlroy, Jon Rahm lead all-star field at TPC Sawgrass

This week’s betting action at the 2023 Players’ Championship is led by three of the world’s top golfers. Jon Rahm, Scottie Scheffler and Rory McIlroy are the only three opponents to score below 15-1 on the odds table at Caesars Sportsbook, and not without good reason.

In each of their last 26 games, the three-headed monster at the top has won at breakneck speed. Rahm has won six, Scheffler five and McIlroy only four. However, it was McIlroy with the 8-1 score that was the favorite of this trio and the field to win the Players championship. Finishing as runner-up at the Arnold Palmer Invitational and as the winner of this title in 2019, the world No 3 looks set to catch Rahm (9-1) and Scheffler (10-1) .

While those three are likely to get along, from a betting perspective the question remains: Will anyone be able to usurp them?

If looking for potential candidates, I won’t go too deep into the odds table. World No. 4 Patrick Cantlay scored 16-1 and will likely have the biggest win of his career. The California-born player has not taken a salary at TPC Sawgrass since 2018 but came into the championship this year with a pair of top five finishes in the last two designated events.

Justin Thomas (18-1) has performed well at TPC Sawgrass throughout his career, including winning in 2021. Xander Schauffele (20-1), Collin Morikawa (22-1) and Tony Finau ( 22-1) aim to find their place on this Pete Dye design. While Keegan Bradley (40-1), Keith Mitchell (50-1) and Corey Conners (50-1) could play the tough outsiders with Sunday’s chance of winning.

Here are the current odds for everyone listed at 100-1 or less, according to Caesars Sportsbook. Don’t forget our scrubs Player’s Championship Picks and Predictions along with our look at the nine golfers most likely to win the Player award.

2023 Player Championship Odds

favourite

  • Rory McIlroy: 9-1
  • Scottie Scheffler: 10-1
  • Jon Rahm: 10-1
  • Homa max: 12-1
  • Patrick Cantlay: 12-1
  • Justin Thomas: 14-1
  • Viktor Hovland: 18-1
  • Jordan Spieth: 22-1
  • Collin Morikawa: 22-1
  • Will Zalatoris: 25-1
  • Xander Schauffele: 25-1
  • Jason’s Day: January 25

If the winner comes from this group, no one will be surprised at all. The respect that Thomas is winning in the market is undoubtedly the most interesting aspect of this group of players. Winner here in 2021, Thomas has looked unsettled since winning the 2022 PGA championship last spring. Perhaps a return to TPC Sawgrass, where he can display his art, is exactly what the doctor ordered.

candidates

  • Tony Finau: 30-1
  • Tyrrell Hatton: 30-1
  • Matt Fitzpatrick: 30-1
  • Sungjae Im: 33-1
  • Tom Kim: 33-1
  • Young Cameron: 35-1
  • Shane Lowry: 35-1
  • Keegan Bradley: 40-1
  • Keith Mitchell: 50-1
  • Corey Conners: 50-1
  • Rickie Fowler: 50-1

There’s a lot to like in this group. In total, there were five major champions and two Player champions, but it was Mitchell who struck the chords. The big-hit bulldog ranks first in strokes won from tee and eighth in strokes won from tee to green since the start of 2023 and has proven a persistent power among top talent with his performances. at the Genesis Invitational with Rahm and Max Homa.

Long shot

  • Tommy Fleetwood: 60-1
  • Sahith Theegala: 60-1
  • Si Woo Kim: 66-1
  • Hideki Matsuyama: 66-1
  • Chris Kirk: 66-1
  • Sam Burns: 66-1
  • Kurt Kitayama: 66-1
  • Justin Rose: 80-1
  • Adam Scott: 80-1
  • Seamus Strength: 80-1
  • Harris English: 80-1
  • Russell Henley: 100-1
  • Brian Harman: 100-1
  • Alex Noren: 100-1
  • Tom Hoge: 100-1
  • Wise Aaron: 100-1
  • Francesco Molinari: 100-1
  • Webb Simpson: 100-1

I don’t necessarily rule out these guys, but it will take a huge effort to win. Currently, Theegala is playing as one of the top 20 players in the world, and Simpson has put up some forms at the API. However, it was 2017 champion Kim who raised his eyebrows (as he usually does). Six years ago, Kim won as an unknown with a score of 500-1 and came this season having just won the Sony Open. He’s ripped through Pete Dye’s designs throughout his career and can be hot as hell.
