As with the previous model, the 2023 BMW S 1000 RR has four driving modes – Rain, Road, Dynamic and Race – with optional “Pro” racing modes. Dynamic traction control is also standard, but new for 2023 is a Sliding Control function that uses a steering angle sensor to slide during acceleration. The new S 1000 RR also has two standard throttle maps linked to the drive modes and adjusts throttle response and transmission torque.
Optional “Pro” modes include DBC Dynamic Brake Control, but ABS Pro is now standard equipment on the new model, helping to prevent wheels from locking up even when braking sharply in an inclined position. And the new Brake Slip Assist function works in a similar way to the Sliding Control function, using a steering angle sensor to allow the driver to set a specific drift angle for so-called brake slip while sliding into a corner with sustained speed. Stopping power is still provided by 320mm discs and two fixed 4-piston radial brake calipers at the front and a 220mm disc and a floating piston at the rear.
The BMW S 1000 RR 2023 also still features standard Hill Launch Control (Optional Hill Launch Control Pro), Shift Assistant Pro and Launch Control.
The S 1000 RR is improved not only in terms of overall performance, but also in terms of chassis and suspension. Introduced in 2020, the Flex Frame, designed to increase the load-carrying function of the engine, has been given more flexibility, as have several new openings in the side areas.
For the new chassis, the slope has increased by 0.5 degrees (23.6 degrees compared to 23.1 degrees before) and the deflection of the trio of clamps has been reduced by 0.1 inches. The trail was increased from 3.7 inches to 3.9. At the same time, the wheelbase is extended by 0.7 inches to 57.4 inches.
As before, rear wheel control is managed by a race-derived gravity diecast swing arm. Suspension and damping are provided by a center spring and shock absorber with an adjustable spring base, damping, rebound and compression. Pop and compression can still be adjusted by 10-click scaling. The shock absorbers are now height-adjustable for advanced adjustments. For easier rear wheel removal and mounting, the rear axle bushing on the right side is now fitted to prevent loss, and the brake pads and brake anchor plates are chamfered. The rear shock absorber travel is 4.6 inches.
As in the predecessor model, the reverse fork with 45mm slide provides high braking stability, as well as stable feedback and response. The fork is equipped with sealed cartridge inserts and adjustment options for the spring rest as well as the compression and damping recovery stages. Front suspension is 4.7 inches.
The BMW S 1000 RR 2023 can be equipped with an optional electronically controlled Dynamic Damping Control DDC suspension linked to the driving modes. Suspension tuning can be individualized in all driving modes.
The BMW S 1000 RR 2023 is also aerodynamically optimized with a new front section, a spoiler, a high windshield and a partition of the triple clamp below.
Like the previous model, the S 1000 RR’s 6.5-inch TFT instrument cluster has four available screen layouts (Pure Ride with key details and 3 Core screens) and the driver can choose what is display tailored to their needs. As a new convenience function, display of the last selected screen will be retained after shutdown.
The design of the 2023 S 1200 RR features a color scheme with three distinct characters: base variants of Blackstorm metallic, Style Passion in Racing Red non-metallic and Racing Red/BMW non-metallic Lightwhite M. alternator and clutch are available in black and have all three finishes.
