It may not be everyone’s bratwurst plate, but the seventh generation BMW 7 Series – as well as fully electric i7 – the car should be easy to find.
BMW’s new flagship sedan will be available in major overseas markets from November 2022, and BMW Australia has confirmed local customer deliveries – including the 740i and i7 xDrive60 – will start in fourth quarter of 2022.
Local pricing and specifications will be announced closer to launch.
As we’ve seen in previous leaks and trailers, the new UI 7 Lines dominated by a modest dual kidney grille.
This is flanked by a split-headlight setup, which features adaptive LED technology as standard in the main beam and a camouflaged high beam.
The upper case is optionally available with Swarovski crystals inside and can be paired with an illuminated grille.

BMW i7
The 7’s flat look is described as “monolithic” by the manufacturer, and features an angular interpretation of the company’s Hofmeister bend.
With hints of the infamous Bangle-butt, the new 7 Series’ rear is perhaps its least controversial element. Available two-tone paint and blue highlights are used to differentiate the i7 from the rest of the lineup.
Wheel sizes range from 19-inches to 22-inch rims when you dip into the M category, which also includes more aggressively styled bumpers, better brakes, and stiffer rubber.

M760e xDrive
At launch, BMW will offer four powertrains (three mild-hybrid petrol engines and an all-electric variant) in the new 7 Series, although availability will vary between markets.
In Australia, for example, the redesigned flagship will only be offered at launch with the 740i and i7 xDrive60 variants.
As soon as the 7 Series goes on sale in Europe with the i7 version only, the company will add a turbo-diesel mild hybrid to the range. Starting in 2023, plug-in hybrid models with 3.0-liter inline-six engines, including the M760e xDrive variant pictured here, will be added to the powertrain list.
A flagship i7 M70 xDrive range will also join the lineup at some point.

Even though the i7 xDrive60 and 760i xDrive have nearly identical outputs, the i7’s straight-line performance suffers from its weight. With an unladen weight of 2715kg, it’s 340kg heavier than its V8 sibling.
Much of the i7 xDrive60’s extra mass comes from its 102kWh lithium-ion battery pack. It supports 11kWh AC charging and 195kW DC fast charging. With the second version, the i7 can reach 80% capacity in 34 minutes.
As with the rest of BMW’s electric car lineup in Australia, the i7 will be offered with a free five-year subscription to the Chargefox charging network.
Boot space increases across the board, but varies depending on the type of powertrain: the mild-hybrid has 540L, the plug-in hybrid 525L and the i7 does with 500L.
Unlike previous versions, the new seventh-generation 7 Series is only available with one wheelbase option.

Compared to the upcoming model, the new flagship sedan is 123mm longer, 48mm wider, 65mm taller and has a 5mm longer wheelbase.
As with other new models and recent BMW refreshes, the i7 and 7 Series feature a Curved Display dashboard that houses a 12.3-inch gauge display and a 14-inch infotainment touchscreen. ,9 inches.
The BMW Operating System 8 infotainment system will support YouTube video playback on the main screen from 2023, and other streaming services will be added in time.
Standard equipment includes a Bowers & Wilkins 18-speaker 655W audio system, a new flat-bottom two-spoke steering wheel, wider front seats, and Veganza faux leather upholstery.
Among the many options are a theater-like rear-screen setup with a 31.3-inch 8K touchscreen and built-in Amazon Fire TV support, a Bowers & Wilkins 1965W “4D” 36-speaker sound system with built-in Amazon Fire TV support. Stimulators are integrated in the front and rear headrests and the 5.5-inch infotainment control touchscreen displays integrated on the rear door cards.
Other available features include automatic doors, a panoramic glass roof with LED rear lighting, rear-wheel steering, active roll stabilization and an electronically retractable tow bar.
With cameras, radar, ultrasonic sensors and 5G cloud connectivity, BMW says the 7 Series will finally support Level 3 automatic driving.
The 7 Series can now automatically react to oncoming traffic and prevent the doors from opening if it detects a cyclist.
With the Driving Assistant Professional package, the 7 Series can handle temporarily narrowed roads and stop automatically when it detects a red light, but will require confirmation at complex intersections.
In North America, the 7 Series is capable of hands-free driving at speeds up to 130 km/h (81mph) on divided highways.
The built-in Drive recorder can store up to 60 seconds of footage from various camera angles for later use. It will also automatically retain 30 seconds of video on each side in the event of an accident.
Automated parking is once again offered, but the system can now recognize curbs and distance markings apart from other vehicles.
From 2023, drivers will be able to step out of their vehicles and control the parking process from their smartphones.
