2022 LIV Golf in Boston standings: Dustin Johnson wins after dramatic eagle hit on first playoff hole
Dustin Johnson won the most impressive LIV Golf League event to date with a 30-foot eagle header on the first hole of Sunday’s three-man playoffs. The win at LIV Boston was DJ’s first win at the LIV Golf League, and it made his team, the Four Aces, the third consecutive win.
Johnson shot 65 on Sunday to enter the playoffs with Anirban Lahiri and Joaquin Niemann, both of whom are making LIV Golf debuts. However, a slow finish in the second season nine saw the major champion twice in a row win his first LIV event by regulation. He’s placed par on his last five holes – including a relatively easy par-5 – as birdies on any of them would win the tournament after 54 holes.
The par at the 54th hole is actually a bit of a revelation. Almost thwarted by a tree on the closing hole, Johnson was able to punch an out and stand up and down to finish in bottom 15, helping him get into the knockout stages. Lee Westwood, who finished on the third hole par-4, caused the bogey to miss the playoffs once. Cam Smith, whose much-anticipated LIV debut, also missed the playoffs by a single hit after shooting 63 on Sunday.
However, the DJ made the most of the opportunity to enter the knockout round to take the first prize of $4 million. After reaching that par-5 18 hole in two strokes, he safely hit what could be called the best putt in LIV Golf history for a three-eagle and victory over Lahiri ( who struggled with birdies) and Niemann.
“Yes, it went a little fast, but it was a good line,” Johnson said after nearly breaking the cup. “I feel like I’ve been playing really well all week, I feel like the first time I’ve had some unlucky bugs here. It owes me one time, and I got it.”
Johnson’s 65 is part of a nice Sunday comeback for the Four Aces, who took down Iron Heads and beat both the Crushers and the Majesticks on their way to their third win in four tournaments. The quartet of Johnson, Talor Gooch, Pat Perez and Patrick Reed will split $3 million in first-place wins, just as they did at both LIV Bedminister and LIV Portland.

What’s next for LIV Golf
The inaugural LIV Golf season is now officially half-way through as the new league kicks off towards a season-ending championship in Miami at the end of October. Between now and the $50 million team finale la in Miami, LIV will travel to Chicago (September 16-18), Bangkok (October 7-9) and Jeddah (October 14-16).
The season-long race for an individual champion is also starting to heat up. With $18 million split among the winners, $8 million to the runner-up and $4 million to the third-place finisher, this will be something to watch out for in the weeks leading up to LIV Jeddah, where the individual competition will end (Miami is purely a team competition).
Johnson now leads that season-long individual race — he’s second this week — and is easily the favorite to pull in $18 million by the end of the other three events. He should have some competition between players like Branden Grace, Carlos Ortiz and his teammate Reed, but the DJ has improved his position in every LIV event and seems to be getting stronger as This inaugural season continues.
