Three-time title winner Abner Mares returned to the ring at the age of 36 Sunday at LA’s Crypto.com Center. His opponent in the expected junior round 10 lightweight bout is Miguel Flores 25-4. Mares, who hadn’t been in the game for four years, looked great at first, overwhelming his senior in the opening rounds while displaying a sharp skill set.

Flores, however, started to evaporate in the middle, which certainly got him on the scoresheet. Although he looks fine, the age and rust of the ring seems to be affecting Mares. Indeed, the later, the more Mares kept his distance from the opponent, throwing and landing well when given the opportunity. Flores is clearly the more aggressive of the two.

By the tenth and final round, an exhausted Mares was shaken several times. If it had been a twelfth round fight, he might not have been able to stand. However, this match was more than ten years old, and Mares was soon in the lead. It will be interesting to see who the judges nod to.

In the end, the nod went to either as the fight was ended in a draw.
