Shockingly, McDonald’s is eclipsed Davis, the defending champion and one of bettors’ favorite targets. The 27-year-old missed a chance in his first two turns around the Detroit Golf Club, and his short bout was the absolute best there was last year. He finished in the top 16 for three consecutive tournaments, but he has six top 25 finishes, in 22 events. Davis doesn’t hit the green ball often enough (135th in terms of regulation) and isn’t great around them (138th in hit hits). That’s not a recipe for long-term success, and McDonald’s hopes its luck will run out.
On the other hand, the expert is supporting Kevin Kisner (35-1), who has excelled in Donald Ross’s courses. The 38-year-old’s last win was at last year’s Wyndham Championship at Sedgefield designed by Ross. He finished eighth last year in Detroit and third in 2020, and his stellar putts and short game are key to his success. He’s 13th in strokes on bets and 26th in greens. Kisner finished T-6 and T-21 in his last two tournaments.
