There is a misconception that all hacks are illegal. However, hacking is simply identifying weaknesses in a service or device — whether it’s a PC, smartphone, or other physical object — and software, including apps, and attempts to exploit them.
This may include computer networks, legacy technology equipment, or the site’s backend control system.
Hacking by itself does not mean intrusion. There are companies out there that require ethical hackers to test their software for weaknesses and will reward them financially for their findings.
Only when hackers use their skills for unauthorized and criminal purposes, theft or vandalism does it become illegal. This could include breaking into networks to deploy malware or steal confidential information.
