Nintendo submitted more than 500 copyright claims to DeoxysPrime to remove their tracks.
Japanese video game company Nintendo seems quite annoyed with YouTubers using background music for its video games. Things got so bad that Nintendo recently hit a YouTube channel with a huge wave of copyright complaints. A YouTube channel called DeoxysPrime hosted a lot of Nintendo music without permission. Now, the Youtuber has been slapped with a vase of pirated flowers. The YouTube account with 165,000 subscribers has received more than 500 copyright claims from the game company. Beating a hasty retreat, DeoxysPrime has decided to remove all Nintendo-related soundtracks from the channel. In fact, the channel deleted Nintendo’s entire music library shortly after dozens of soundtracks were blocked.
DeoxysPrime released a statement saying, “Effective immediately, I will be removing all Nintendo music from my channel. With more than 500 claims and dozens of soundtracks blocked in the past week, it’s clear they don’t want their music to appear on YouTube. I apologize to everyone who enjoys their music but I don’t have many options.”
The statement adds, “I also shared with no intention of deleting my channel and the rest of my non-Nintendo tracks will remain in place for the foreseeable future.”
Some of the soundtracks that have been taken down include the Smash series, the Donkey Kong Country games, Wind Waker, the F-Zero series, and most modern Mario and Mario Kart games.
This isn’t the first time Nintendo has targeted a major music channel. Back in January, GilvaSunner also received over 1,300 copyright blocks. The YouTuber reacted by saying, “I’m…not angry or surprised that Nintendo did this, but I think it’s a bit disappointing that there’s hardly an alternative.”
