On April 18, Jakhiya Nelson17 years old, made waves on the internet after announcing that she plans to devour America with her prom look. Teenager in the shade room was able to catch up with Jakhiya, and she tells us it all started after she decided to do prom proportions on her TikTok page.
Many people in her hometown of Mississippi didn’t take the rate lightly, and she sparked a lot of backlash on Facebook.

Upset after revealing her hair, Jakhiya posted a tearful video on her TikTok account.

While many begged her not to let America down, supporters encouraged her to wipe her tears and show up for the night. Jakhiya wiped away her tears and started going live while rocking her backup prom look. She looked absolutely stunning while stunning in a sparkly white dress.
She said, “I like the dress because it matches my nails. I bought it at the mall literally an hour before the prom.”

Jakhiya originally planned to enter the ball in a purple evening gown. She revealed that she initially contacted her designer in February 2023 and the overall design cost $1,000! As her prom date approached, she opened up about having some difficulty with the designer. Luckily, after not getting what she wanted, the designer is willing to give her a full refund.

Sis is not bothered by hate
Even though Jakhiya is stuck in the limelight, she’s still positive through the ups and downs of prom day.
“We should always keep a positive attitude because no one is perfect. My mom is still active! She knows me, she knows my temper…I’m like a bomb that I tick. So she kept me calm and she told me not to worry about it because I still get my views and still get my likes. Even though I’ve lost about 80,000 followers, I’m still trending and I’ve made a whole trend on TikTok and everything! So I’m always optimistic because I’m just a positive person and I really don’t care about hate. Everything happens for a reason.”
She told us that in addition to her outfit being messed up, she was late for her makeup appointment and was late to the prom. Also, before her big day, she also got into trouble trying to rent a Mercedes Benz. In the midst of this, she also received some negativity from people on social media.
