You can now book JetBlue (including Mint) flights with Avios

JetBlue Airways flight redemptions using Qatar Airways Privilege Club Avios are now available, and you can book them online.

Historically, it has been difficult for travelers to book JetBlue flights using miles at a great price point because it has no membership in one of the world’s three global airline alliances; JetBlue currently has dynamically priced redemptions in its TrueBlue loyalty program.

Now, Privilege Club prices redemptions on JetBlue with a fixed award chart as it does for other partner airlines, such as American Airlines and British Airways (with better availability for BA flights than American Airlines AAdvantage members will have access to).

This means you will need the following numbers of Qatar Avios each way per person:

Distance Route example Economy class Business class
0-650 miles New York’s John F. Kennedy International Airport (JFK) to Ronald Reagan Washington National Airport (DCA) 6,000 12,500
651-1,151 miles Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport (FLL) to New York 9,000 16,500
1,152-2,000 miles Boston Logan International Airport (BOS) to Key West International Airport (EYW) 11,000 22,000
2,001-3,000 miles San Francisco International Airport (SFO) to Boston 13,000 38,750
3,001-plus miles New York to London’s Heathrow Airport (LHR) 20,750 62,000

With only $10.10 in fees and taxes payable on domestic flights, cross-country journeys in JetBlue’s well-regarded Mint business-class cabin are a particularly good value, and award availability currently is great.

You can book flights online through the Privilege Club website, and you do not need the Avios in your account to see the availability and pricing.

With cash fares of at least $700 on the same flights, this would give you an Avios redemption value of almost 2 cents each, well above our current Avios valuation of 1.5 cents each. To compare, JetBlue charges more than 100,000 TrueBlue miles for the same flight, making the Avios redemption a much better option.

Flights to Europe are priced the same as American Airlines-operated flights, which have a much larger European network than JetBlue’s small but growing presence.

While 62,000 miles one-way is not the lowest mileage price you will find in business class in any program to Europe, the minimal fees and taxes are a great deal compared to the fuel surcharges imposed by other programs.

JetBlue redemptions from European airports will incur higher airport taxes, and from London, you will need to pay U.K. Air Passenger Duty fees.

How to earn Qatar Airways Avios

The easiest way for U.S. travelers to earn Qatar Avios is by transferring Citi ThankYou Rewards points to Privilege Club. Points convert to Qatar Avios at a 1:1 ratio, though transfers usually take around two days to process.

You can also transfer Avios from British Airways Executive Club, Iberia Plus or Aer Lingus AerClub at a 1:1 rate in any direction.

The following cards all currently offer strong welcome bonuses that you could easily convert to Avios in these three programs (and then transfer to Privilege Club):

Bottom line

This is great news for anyone looking to book JetBlue flights with points and miles.

Given the rates are fixed (according to distance), with no peak or off-peak dates, you can always know how many Privilege Club Avios you will need to book your next JetBlue flight rather than potentially spending 100,000 points (or more) per flight when using JetBlue’s own TrueBlue program.

Another great use of this valuable points currency? Transcontinental flights in JetBlue’s Mint domestic business-class product is definitely a noteworthy deal, costing just under 40,000 Avios each way.
