Yoko Taro says the NieR series is over, Merry Christmas!

In a special Christmas message from three of the NieR series’ development stars, creative director Yoko Taro announced that NieR passed. No more NieR games for us…unless he gets a big pile of money. Quickly, it became clear that he was just running around. Another classic ruse from the man in the Emil mask, and a subtle hint that they might have something new in the works. Plus, this is just a really fun video and you should all watch it.

Like the divine trio, Yoko Taro is winged by producer Yosuke Saito and composer Keiichi Okabe. After a quick discussion about how sore their shoulders were, Saito dropped the big question.

“So is there anything new you want to do now, Mr. Yoko, Mr. Okabe? In regards to the NieR series?”

Taro said: “I want to do something related to the NieR series?”. He paused for a second, “No, nothing!”

Saito doubled back, asking Taro if he’s “okay with nothing more to do with YoRHa?”, and Taro, regenerating his strength, exclaims, “That’s right. We made an announcement here today. Okabe laughed. giggle next to them, potentially composing future explosions in his head as the camera turns.

Saito reminds Taro that his announcement “could be proven to be a lie” and Taro replies, “I guess so”, turning to the camera intentionally. “But you never know…”, he said, “I could do more if I got a big pile of money…”

But that’s not all. The conversation went on and it was really fun. Saito asks Taro what he wants for Christmas and Taro replies, “Christmas? Hmm… I think I want to be a decent person…” Then they all lamented their shoulders. his ailing and joking. the result is “they may not last much longer”.

Then one last time of information. Taro said that they were “talking about a few different things here today, but there’s actually an important secret message hidden somewhere in the chat!” And that “anyone who can solve the mystery and tell us what it is will win half of Yosuke Saito’s bank account!” Incredible news!

Thanks for the setup. The festive border is neat. Curtains create a nice contrast with the white wall in the center. Distortion of office noise in the background, with a bit of NieR’s oos and aaas on top. And of course, just three legends hanging out and having a good laugh. This gives it a real sense of fun, as opposed to an insincere block of text or a developer in a suit. Bless them, I hope they have a well-earned holiday.
