Yoko Taro Produced New NieR Automata Anime Ending


Official Amazarashi YouTube account shared a trailer focusing on a new music video for “Antinomy,” an ending song for NieR: Automatic machine cartoon adaptation. Yoko Taro, the director and writer of the original game, planned and produced the new installment. NieR Automata finish. The trailer highlights the Machine Lifeforms depicted as puppets and the never-ending war they are cursed to participate in. The film will be released on February 3, 2023. [Thanks, Game Watch!]

In the trailer, Yoko Taro explains her intention to use puppets and dolls to represent the Machine Lifeforms. The creators delight in the imperfect feel the dolls give and how the joints and mechanisms move randomly with no apparent sense of freedom. The lack of choice and freedom in a senseless war is the core theme of NieR: Automatic machine and its anime adaptation.

The music video will be a 15 minute puppet show that tells the story NieR story. This is the second collaboration between Amazarashi and Yoko Taro, after the release of “Deserving of Life” in 2017 to celebrate the release of NieR: Automatic machine.

officially titled NieR: Automata Ver1.1aThe anime tells the story of YoRHa soldiers 2B and 9S, two cyborgs who fight against the invasion of the Machine Lifeforms, led by alien invaders. NieR: Automata Ver1.1a currently in a indefinite hiatus, in part due to the COVID-19 pandemic. Only the first three episodes of the series aired in Japan.

A new version of the ending song performed by Amazarashi is titled “Hypothetical Puppet Show Antinomy” and will be released on February 3, 2023.
