Playing dress up for hours on end with Bhasin was Fletcher’s favorite part of the filming process, which is not surprising given that she’s also dabbled in the world of costume design. As a young girl, Fletcher began pursuing a career in fashion design, often filling her notebooks with sketches of dresses. Despite choosing a different career path, her love of clothes and outfits has always remained, so when a good friend of hers comes to her to make a wardrobe for a short film, she directed, Fletcher jumped at the opportunity. The experience, which included 17 costume changes (yes, 17!) for the main character alone, gave the actress a new appreciation for the world of costume design. “Becoming an actress is really exciting because I think you look at certain character choices in their wardrobe in a different way,” she told us. “The way you break down the script as an actor is very different from the way you break down the script as a makeup artist, wardrobe or set designer. And in a way, already acting, breaking down the script brought something really interesting and small, minute-by-minute choices. “Fletcher will be the first to let you know the job isn’t easy, crediting the costume designers for working on feature-length films and full features.
As for her personal style choices, Fletcher remains a thrifty enthusiast, which she says has given her a lot of freedom to express herself on a unique level. “I think it’s a lot better if you show up and wear something that you put yourself together and it’s a fun experience to learn and figure it out,” she added. “I think my fashion and style are still evolving, but the more I collect things that I like, the more it evolves.”
