Two recently filed trademarks for ‘RealityOS’ suggest that Apple will likely announce its long-rumored AR/VR headset at its 2022 Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC).

Two trademark filings, discovered by Parker Ortolaniadding to speculation about Apple’s mixed reality headsets, which first appeared in the rumor mill in 2017, which flared up in February after developers noticed a “realityOS” reference in a blog post. Sign the App Store.

Ortolani discovered a company called Realityo Systems LLC had filed the name ‘RealityOS’ with the US Patent and Trademark Office on December 8, 2021. The deadline for “international filing” of this name with USPTO falls on June 8, 2022 – notably, two days later WWDC 2022 begins.

As noted 9to5Mac, Apple used shell companies to register trademarks and patents for unreleased products in an attempt to conceal the provenance of the records. For example, Apple used shell company “Yosemite Research LLC” to register the macOS Yosemite and Monterey names before they were announced.

The Apple connection is Yosemite Research LLC and Realityo Systems LLC is registered with an address of the “Corporation Trust Center”, a trademark services company that considers Apple a customer.

Ortolani detailed spotted on Twitter on Friday. It is no coincidence that the trademark ‘RealityOS’ owned by a seemingly non-existent and exclusive company ‘wearable computer hardware’ was filed around the world on the 8th, he wrote. June 2022.

Brands fuel speculation in February after Apple follow-up Detected references to the actual operating system in the App Store update log.

Bloomberg reported about its knowledge of “rOS” in 2017 (where “r” stands for “actual”). Earlier this month, Bloomberg report Apple has ramped up rOS development in recent weeks, and an enhanced preview of the hardware was recently demonstrated to Apple’s board.

If Apple introduces the headset to developers at WWDC 2022, the device probably won’t be available to consumers until 2023. But Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman today speak he will be “wary of expecting a comprehensive presentation” of the device next week.

The AR/VR headset has been in development on Apple’s Technology Development Team since 2015 under Apple vice president Mike Rockwell and Apple. former director of hardware engineering, Dan Riccio.
