Woman forced to surrender puppy due to $10,000 vet bill

A woman was forced to hand over her puppy after she couldn’t pay his emergency vet bill. However, she figured she would have a chance to get him back if she quickly raised the money. When she contacted the vet just hours after she surrendered the puppy, they said it wasn’t there. She didn’t know if he was still alive.

The vet explained that the woman had legally signed a contract to hand over her dog, but that doesn’t mean she shouldn’t accept an explanation. She deserves to know where her dog is and if he’s okay. Hopefully she will be able to reunite with him soon.

“Pay or surrender to him”

Rachel Mullen has only had a German Shepherd puppy named Jaxx for two months, but she has already formed a close relationship with him. So when he started to get sick, she rushed him to the 24-hour Maine Veterinary Medical Center. When she arrived, she learned that Jaxx had somehow gotten a wooden skewer in her stomach and needed emergency surgery.

“The last thing I did was hug and kiss him and tell him to get well,” Mullen said.

However, Mullen quickly discovered that the surgery cost more than $10,000. Veterinarians ask for half the payment up front and half when the surgery is complete. Mullen doesn’t have that much money, and she doesn’t think she’ll have enough time to raise it before the procedure. The staff told her she needed to return it or give it to Jaxx.

The clinic informed her that Jaxx needed urgent surgery so Mullen didn’t have much time to think. She turned the dog in electronically to ensure it was taken care of. She still ended up paying about $2,600.

No sign of Jaxx

Mullen has set up a GoFundMe page to raise money for Jaxx’s medical bills in hopes of getting him back. A lot of friends and family supported her, so she quickly earned enough. However, when she offered the clinic money, they didn’t take it. They say Jaxx is no longer there. It had only been a few hours since Mullen surrendered to him.

Mullen said: “My kids cry and ask about him every day.

Sadly, Mullen has no idea where Jaxx is or if he is still alive. When sources contacted the clinic’s corporate owners, they only said that the pet’s surrender was a “legally binding contract” and that they worked with shelters and rescues. They didn’t say anything about where Jaxx was.

The Greater Portland Animal Refugee Federation said they did not have Jaxx, and they believed the clinic’s behavior was unusual. The shelter always had a conversation with the dog’s owner in this situation, so they were shocked that the vet never gave Mullen any information.

Mullen refuses to give up her beloved dog. She has filed a police report and plans to take her concerns to the state veterinary panel.
