Wobbledogs on Switch makes me wish I had a mouse
There are some games that you look at and say, “Sure, that game would be great on Nintendo Switch.” When, when they’re there, it might not be immediately ideal. As it is, the essence and spirit of shaking dog makes a Switch port look like it’s awesome. In many ways, it is! It certainly matches the tone of the console-slash-handle. But at the same time, the remnants of the PC version launch plan can sometimes make it less than ideal.
To get an idea of why a problem appears, it’s best to understand what shaking dog To be. Remember the old people Petz PC games? Those who will even allow breeding. You will see different traits passed from parents to future generations. shaking dog is a sillier version of that. You raise dogs, feed them food-like substances, encourage them to pupate to reach an adult state, and then fertilize the dog’s eggs to pass on the traits you consider great to develop new dogs. new “dog”. As you complete the objective, you can eventually increase the decorations in their enclosure. You also unlock new flora effects from feeding your dog different substances and encouraging different types of traits. So a dog might start out with a pink body, purple head and legs, but will end up with a tail, a different color scheme, and shorter legs. Or, you know, if you play long enough with the number of legs, eyes, and wing types. (Yes, basically a rocking dog a dog can become a creature no different from a biblical angel.)
It’s very silly.
Since much of the essence of the game is to monitor and test conditions to see what happens next, it seems shaking dog will be a proper indie game on Switch. It absolutely is! It acts as something to be around while you do other things, checking in with your dogs from time to time to see what’s going on or if they’ve been digging. It’s fun to play for a few minutes between other games.
However, since many games involve clicking dogs to select actions, clicking objects or locations to guide them through, and clicking around the environment to place or retrieve objects, it’s not always It’s also easy to find the right dogs. or complete actions. For example, when dogs enter their cocoon to begin the next stage of their life, they will be suspended from the ceiling of their cage. However, actually clicking on them to make them expand is no easy feat. The button to change the current food type and to create a food product are pretty close together, which again can make things a bit complicated. Let’s say a dog digs up some dirt that can become food. Those tend not to go too far from the hole, which means picking the right item can be a pain. Doesn’t have the same precision as the mouse provides. You can still do all of these things, to be sure. It’s just not as user-friendly as the PC version with a mouse. This is exacerbated by the fact that there are no touchscreen controls.
As a smaller matter, shaking dog The switch instance starts each session by asking someone to set a controller. If you’re using the Switch in Handheld mode, you’ll need to remove the Joy-cons, although after that prompt you can reattach the Joy-cons to the side and play as normal. It was a strange decision. I’m using Switch OLED so no problem. It makes me wonder what someone using a Switch Lite would need to do.
For some reason, the performance of my Wobbledogs Switch with only three “dogs”, two rooms and minimal widgets/decorations is… bad. pic.twitter.com/T1EL0Lk4VS

However, I ran into an issue after adding a second room caused the game to start to stop. The dogs end up stuck with their heads tilted back. They awkwardly jump locations, instead of walking around. Deleting the extra room fixed everything. But that’s a problem in a game where the ultimate goal is dogs and elaborate compounds. While the control scheme crashing isn’t a big deal, it’s worrisome for the game to stop when you start scaling.
shaking dog still an incredibly silly sandbox on Switch. It’s the same kind of game who grew up on the classic Petz game or Viva pinata will get a kick out of play. However, it is not the most comfortable on the system. There are times when it really reminds you how valuable a mouse can be.
