Echo Lake Park in Fort Worth has a long history as a secluded spot for illegally abandoning dead, dying, and unwanted dogs. According to Obregon and local law enforcement, notorious area is a favorite of animal abusers, especially those in the air.
Although many of the dogs she found were dead, Obregon faithfully searched the park day after day in search of animals she could help. She records what she finds on Facebook Page TAO – for better or for worse – to raise awareness of the terrible cruelty inflicted on innocent, voiceless victims.
Over the years, Obregon has saved hundreds of dogs from Echo Lake Park, and this week, among the carnage, she rescued another. As she circled the area, Obregon spotted a white light in the overgrown grass. It’s a thin, lanky, filthy crossbreed that gives birth to earth.
The black rope that was fastened around the girl’s neck turned out to be a broken leash, the rest of which was still attached to a nearby fence. Obregon thinks she may have injured herself in her struggle to break free and seek help.

A trip to the vet reveals that Callie is a healthy young girl! She was negative for heartworm and had no diagnosed wounds. The limp could be pain or bruising from trying to break her leash. Like all pets rescued by The Abandoned Ones, Callie is currently in a safe and well cared for foster home.
Ogregon said Dodo that with each passing day, Callie seems to reveal a little more about her abusive past. She has found her smile and is “to the point where she doesn’t even care what happened to her before”.
