Windless Friday – Spoiled With That?
DECEMBER 17, 2021

The high pressure is now easing off for at least the next week, not only in the UK but in much of NW Europe.
It’s hardly surprising that wind power is gone for almost nothing here, just 0.62 GW:
We are now dangerously dependent on connectors, especially since wind power is also declining in countries like Germany and Denmark:
In Germany, demand is currently running at 70 GW, leaving a shortfall of 10 GW compared to the generation at 60 GW.
Poland, France and Spain have very few spare parts, meaning the rest of Europe is largely dependent on Norway and Sweden, which both share a surplus of 13 GW.
Since these surpluses both come from hydro and nuclear (Sweden), there will be no easy way to increase this when demand for it is inevitable.
