Why is it not GR 86 anymore

Toyota making a small last minute change to 2022 GR 86. Its marketing department is pressing the “backspace” key and removing the space between GR and eighty six to make the second-generation coupe easier to find on Google and on various social media channels.

First reported by CarScoops, the adjustment was confirmed by a spokesman for the Japanese company’s UK division. “It has to do with SEO,” the representative explained. Search engine optimization (SEO) is basically what helps keywords and websites rank higher on Google and other search engines. Interestingly enough, it seems that hashtags also have a part in the cause: it’s better to use hashtags # GR86 rather than figuring out how to deal with space.

Taking a few seconds to browse the social media platforms shows that Toyota has a point. On Twitter, #GR The hashtag pulls up some Toyota-related content, including images of Hybrid GR Yaris, but also a lot of odds and ends that have nothing to do with an agile coupe powered by a 2.4-liter flat four engine – like weather information, screenshots of cartoons, and content posted by a scaffolding company called George Roberts. On Instagram, # eighty six hashtags appear on many car photos (remember: GR86 Not the first Toyota to have the number 86 in its name) but also on images of cakes, shoes and baseball caps. However, # GR86 is about 99% about cars.

The change will not require making any modifications to the GR86; For example, its icons will be preserved. And, it doesn’t affect BRZ, which is SEO-friendly because it’s an uncommon set of letters – even if it’s also the name of the “first Brazilian stablecoin in circulation.”
