Which camera should you buy in 2022?

Not a single bad camera has been released in the past few years. However, there are still some cameras that are better than others. In this article, we will see which cameras are the best to choose in 2022. Some cameras are cheap, while others are expensive, some are made for fast shooting and others are good for shooting. Stunning detail in the studio.

If you want to buy a camera, there are a lot of great options out there. Depending on what you shoot, your choice of camera will vary. If it’s sports, you’ll probably be more interested in shutter speed rather than megapixels. On the other hand, if you shoot portraits and fashion, you might pay attention to the dynamic range and megapixel count. Importantly, this guide is aimed primarily at photographers. It covers both APS-C, full-frame and medium format cameras.

Canon EOS R5

The beginning of the list is a legend Canon EOS R5. It became the 5D Mark II of the mirrorless era. It is probably the best Canon camera to buy, period. If you’re thinking about getting into the R5 system and you can justify the upgrade, go for it. With its 45-megapixel resolution and superb EVF, this camera will be a great companion for still images. Pair it with an RF lens and you’ll never lose focus again, as Canons are known for their excellent autofocus, especially on RF lenses. It initially hated potential overheating issues, however, when testing the camera, it was revealed that overheating was an exception rather than the norm for the R5. In fact, the R5 is in a category of its own when it comes to explosiveness: the competition simply can’t keep up.

What can be improved

Sony a7 IV

The camera is in a good position for a full-frame mirrorless camera from Sony. It builds on the glory of the Sony a7 III and it improves quite a bit over it. While the a7 III is highly rated for its capabilities, photographers still want features like real-time tracking and full eye-detection autofocus, for both stills and video. The Sony a7 IV have those features and even more. This camera has a fully matched screen and a better EVF.

The Sony a7 IV is suitable for capturing images with a 33-megapixel sensor, but not for anything fast due to the relatively slow 10fps burst mode and even just compressed raw mode. . Even so, videographers will be pleased it has 4K/60, albeit with 1.5x cropping. The camera can record 10-bit, H.265 video with S-Cinetone, which is good news for videographers. It is not a cinema camera. If you mainly do video, aim for a camera dedicated to video. However, if you want to get into the Sony system or upgrade to the a7 III, the a7 IV is a great choice in 2022.

Nikon Z9

Late to the party, but anyway, Nikon Z9 It’s great. This is Nikon’s flagship camera that many users have been waiting for. It is truly something extraordinary, as it combines high resolution with outstanding performance. Choosing to remove the physical shutter might be the secret ingredient, as it allows the camera to hit a previously unseen 1/32000 shutter speed at 120 fps. At this point, I’m still wondering if this is a video camera that also takes stills. You’d better stock up on memory cards if you want to shoot those explosions. In fact, it also shoots 8K video at 60fps, so you really have to buy a lot of expensive memory cards for it. Compared to the EOS R3, it’s night and day. While it may have more AF points than the Z9, it doesn’t make the R3 any better than this beastly Nikon flagship. Keep in mind that the rumored EOS R1 is yet to launch.

Fujifilm X-H2S

The Fujifilm X-H2S for those who want good video recording, fast continuous speed and small size. The Fujifilm X-H2S is a camera made especially for those who care about size and weight. While it’s a bit pricey for what’s essentially an APS-C camera, it’s still capable of doing a lot of things like AI-driven AF. This camera is designed to be the ultimate APS-C photo/video combo. It can be a good choice even if you plan to only use it for stills or video. Basically, this camera is for existing Fujifilm users, as the price is hard to compare with Canon or full frame Sony if you are a new user. It is a disadvantage when it comes to image quality. Against OM-1, the X-H2S shoots slower but has better control over your video. Ultimately, the Fujifilm X-H2S is a great all-rounder, and given the impressive range of lenses that Fujifilm has, photographers won’t be disappointed with the choices.

What can be improved

  • Difficult to adjust over the whole frame for new users
  • Cheaper options available

Hasselblad X2D 100C

Newly launched medium format camera king, Hasselblad X2D beat even H6D. That’s all because the X2D is a camera that incorporates feedback from users of previous Hasselblad models. We recently reviewed the Hasselblad X2D. Long story short, camera is delivered. In terms of detail, the review praised the X2D for its incredible detail and dynamic range, as well as its stunning color reproduction. The in-camera IBIS is pretty efficient too, while the 1TB internal SSD is something I wish all cameras had. This way, even if you leave your memory card at home, you can still record movies without any problem. This is a game changer for many people and I doubt that more and more cameras will start implementing this feature in their cameras. On the other hand, the lack of GPS, as well as the slightly low price. GPS is useful for those who don’t like taking pictures, while the $8,199 price tag will leave space in a few wallets out there.

What I like

  • IBIS
  • Internal SSD 1TB
  • Incredible resolution and image quality

What can be improved

Stop thinking

So here are some of my top picks for cameras in 2022. Of course, there will be other options, as buying a camera is pretty specific to your needs. You can very well use a 10 year old Canon 5D Mark II, this camera will do everything you need. Others will just need an iPhone to take pictures, especially with the newly released iPhone 14 pro and it’s capable of capturing raw photos at 48 megapixels with some pretty powerful AI! I’m sure some people will buy it and replace their bigger and heavier cameras.
