When Twitter Becomes X, Here’s What’s For Subscribers

Twitter is no more! While that may be an overstatement, the microblogging platform owned by Elon Musk has now officially been renamed X. This is not surprising since yesterday the head of Twitter himself asked his followers to create models for the new logo and a “good enough” model will be picked up and streamed worldwide. Now, Musk has delivered on that promise, and Twitter is now officially known as X. The change has now been made live with an X-link badge along with a blue tick on Musk’s profile.

Share the new logo, Twitter CEO (now X) Linda Yaccarino tweeted, “X is here! Let’s do it.” In a follow-up tweet, Yaccarino shared the X logo projected on a building, with the caption, “Lights. Camera. X!”

Amid the multitude of changes the microblogging platform is going through, what is the roadmap?

Twitter becomes X: Changes announced

While not much has been revealed about the upcoming changes to the new platform, Yaccarino’s tweets suggest that it will become a super app, much like China’s WeChat. In a series of previous tweets, CEO X revealed that the platform will aim to reshape the international social sphere, harnessing the power of AI.

Besides being a social media platform for user interaction, X will also provide various services such as audio, video and messaging. It will also provide bank and payment services, similar to WeChat.

According to Yacarino tweetX will create “a global marketplace for ideas, goods, services and opportunities.”

Although it was only announced a few days ago, this rebranding is not a sudden change as CEO X revealed in his tweets. Instead, it’s part of a microblogging platform transition that began nearly eight months ago with Musk’s takeover. Since then, some controversial new changes have been implemented, such as removing old verification, Twitter Blue, DM restrictions, etc.

So what does the future hold? “There is absolutely no limit to this transformation,” says Yaccarino. X will be the platform that can deliver…everything. @elonmusk and I look forward to working with us team and each of our partners to bring X to the world.”

What will tweets be called?

On Twitter, user-generated posts are called tweets. So what do we call them now? A user asked Musk the same question and Musk replied with an “X”. What about the users who tweet? Other users tweeted asks the same question, “will the user now be called Xers? I can’t lie that I love the sound.” But it looks like Musk and all the other X users will become anonymous when he answered“We won’t have a name.”
