Michigan’s Oxford town community is mourning the deaths of the following four young lives shooting range earlier this week.
Tuesday’s shooting at Oxford High School in Oxford Township, a community of about 22,000 people about 30 miles north of Detroit, initially claimed the lives of three students: Tate Myre, Hana St. Juliana and Madisyn Baldwin.
On Wednesday, officials announced a fourth student, a 17-year-old boy named Justin Shilling, I can’t stand my wounds.
Six other students and a teacher were also injured in the incident. The Oakland County Sheriff’s Office said as of Wednesday, three victims were still hospitalized. Four people have been treated and released.
School website read, “As we grapple with this horrific tragedy in our school community, we grieve for the students who lost their lives and we grieve for all those injured and impacted.”
Oxford High School is closed for the rest of the week.
Oakland County Sheriff Mike Bouchard tweeted on Wednesday that “his broken heart for families that will never be the same and a quiet sweet community has been shattered.”
The shooter, Ethan Crumbley, 15, is facing two dozen charges including first-degree murder, terrorism and various counts of assault.
Here’s what we know about the students who died.
Madisyn Baldwin, 17 years old
Tarah Baldwin told a local news station that her granddaughter was “the light of so many.”
Tarah Baldwin said that the 17-year-old student transferred to the school this year.
“Very artistic, very smart, very smart, who has come this far in the world,” she told WXYZ.
Her family told a local The station reports that she is expected to graduate this year and has been accepted to a number of schools, some on full ride scholarships.
They said Baldwin enjoys drawing, reading and writing.
Tate Myre, 16 years old
Myre was a defender and tight finisher of the Oxford High football team.
The 16-year-old died in a patrol vehicle while being driven to the hospital by an officer, Bouchard confirmed in a statement. news conference Tuesday.
According to the Oxford High football team, Myre has attended since freshman year and is an honors student.
The group shares their loss on Twitter wrote, “Tate is a wonderful young man with a bright future and is loved by all.”
“Tate has been and will always be a bright light for Oxford. It’s hard to put into words how much he means to me, but he will hold a special place in my heart forever.” the team’s head coach, Zach Line, personal sharing on Twitter. “God reached down and touched certain people, he was one of those people.”
Posts shared online said Myre attempted to disarm the shooter and save other students during the incident.
NPR contacted the Oakland County Sheriff’s Office to confirm this account.
An online petition is being launched asking to rename the school football stadium after Myre for his bravery, according to the Change.org campaign.
The petition reads: “Tate was not only a hero to his students at Oxford High School but a legend, his act of bravery should be remembered forever and saved. passed down through the generations, he put his life on the line to try and help thousands of other students at Oxford High School.”

Hana St. Juliana, 14 years old
The youngest victim of the Oxford shooting was St. Juliana, a freshman. She is considered a “beloved member of hers school volleyball and basketball teams.
“We will never forget your kind heart, goofy personality and passion for the game. Since camping in 6th grade, you’ve stayed dedicated to Oxford Basketball, immersing yourself in the game. play,” basketball team wrote. “This season we play for you Hana.”
A close family friend told WXYZ in Detroit that St. Juliana loves babysitting and being with the kids and her tradition with family and friends revolves around food. Friend Jennifer Curtis said: ‘She was kind and honest with herself.
Justin Shilling, 17 years old
Shilling is a senior at Oxford and co-captain of the school’s bowling team.
In his free time, he works at a local restaurant called Anita’s Kitchen.
“Justin is an exemplary employee, a devoted friend and colleague, co-captain of his bowling team, and simply a joy to be around,” the restaurant said. wrote in a tribute on Facebook.
