With Triangle Strategyrecent debuts and revelations about Live A Live remaster, we’re keeping an eye on Square Enix’s “HD-2D” efforts. What do you want to see in the next HD-2D game? A remaster? An homage to a classic? The writers of Siliconera made their pick.
Chrono Activator It’s one of those classic games that I’ve heard a lot of great things about but I’ve never really experienced it myself. When I first saw your brother I play it? I (perhaps rather blasphemously) wrote it as “ugly” compared to Final Fantasy X. Although it has been released on more modern platforms such as Windows PC and Nintendo DS, I think it will be a pretty good game to experience in HD-2D.
My second choice is Brave Fencer Musashi for purely emotional reasons, but that would require a complete overhaul of the game’s aesthetic. Because the point of view of HD-2D is hold that vintage atmosphere, it can ruin the idea. – Stephanie
Is it too soon after release Final Fantasy Pixel Remaster line to request a Final Fantasy HD-2D Remaster? Featured work on that Scene from Final Fantasy VI How much does it take to drive home I want to see my favorites FF New style game. And I’ve never seen Square Enix shy away from selling me something I like again! So consider this a far-fetched promise.
In that case, I want a new root title. Guaranteed, Live A Live coming soon and is essentially new to most people. But I’d like to see Square Enix go further and apply the look to something a little bit further than the aesthetic we’ve seen so far. Possibly a sci-fi game in the cult classic style of DS Endless space? Or a modern-day urban fantasy? – Josh
We have never seen a Hero Hanjuku games outside of Japan. These are real-time strategy games that have appeared on multiple platforms in Japan. The series started on the Famicom, but spin-offs also appear on the Super Famicom, Nintendo DS, and PS2! We’ve seen Square Enix decide to release a title previously exclusive to Japan worldwide thanks to the HD-2D remake. If it does it again with a Hero Hanjuku game? That would be pretty awesome! – Jenny
Speaking of localization: there’s a critically acclaimed Enix RPG that’s never been out in the US, and now would be a great time: Terranigma. There were a few issues on the subject of game crashes that might have cast some doubt on Nintendo of America’s mind in the 1990s. Now, though? That won’t be a problem. Its stellar reputation, which has grown over the years, will combine well with the HD-2D aesthetic and produce a title that sells as fast as it plays. – Graham
