It’s not easy to step away from convention. Habits are hard to break. Request “What breed is this dog?” comes naturally to all of us. It’s really weird to hear someone say “the breed doesn’t matter when it comes to choosing the right dog for your home.” People need solid reasons to break habits and make big changes, especially when they’re dealing with life – both human and animal.
Science helps do that. Of course, science can be overwhelming. Our infographic breaks that down into small talking points on which you can create deeper conversations with your employees – and even potential adopters.
The fact that there’s no way to know which parts of the breed can influence their behavior is very strong. Even if a dog is purebred, you still don’t know what breed traits it possesses, there are too many factors at play.
The only thing you know for sure is the behavior you’ve observed from the dog – and that’s what really matters.
You are in the business of placing wonderful pets in wonderful homes. You can’t do that if your descriptions of dogs are purely conjecture. That doesn’t make for good application matches. What is audio knowledge. The only thing that gives you that is the observable behavior, not the breed label.
