Weekly Workflow | Wit & Delight

As we approach the reset that tends to come in September every year, I wanted to share a bit about my weekly work routine. My work routine is never the same from week to week, though it tends to be structured around a common set of work hours (~9:15am – 3:30pm, though sometimes I also started working at night), core meetings, weekly assignments, and a few larger projects. Throughout my days, there’s always coffee, deep work, content creation, and conversations with the team and with our audience online.

I work best when I have touch points and goals throughout the week, along with the flexibility to move things around if needed. That kind of flexibility is something I’ve ingrained in my design Wit & Delight Planner. Having the ability to see my week at a glance, and move things around as needed, without feeling embarrassed about it, is something really important to me.

Below is a snapshot of my weekly work routine, structured by the main focus items for each day.

P.S. If you like this type of content, you can read all the details about 6 a.m. to 9 a.m. customary here!

Monday

Daily Focus: Plan the whole week + meet with our new sales team.

Morning

Normally, I’ll ease into Mondays with a few news updates to understand the current news situation (Puppets and 1440 are my two favorites). Then I’ll clean up any unread texts or emails and go through the calendar and tasks for the next week. Every member of our team gets together on weekly tasks they need me to complete, from creating social content to writing to reviewing sponsored content and more. If I had time, I would start some of this work on Monday morning.

Afternoon

My main meeting on Monday is to check in with our new sales team. We will check against all of our current and potential partnerships. This gives our new sales director the opportunity to kickstart the week with our first outreach job of the week. This day is also about getting back to social media and connecting with our audience there, especially if I’m relatively quiet on our various platforms over the weekend.

Other

In fact, most of my Mondays are not spent on work. Sometimes some household chores will also fall on this day, whether I need to clean the house a bit from the weekend or the grocery store, as I usually don’t prioritize these when my kids are at home. I tend to be quite tired on Monday evenings so our dinner is usually Pretty easy meal.

Tuesday

Daily Focus: Get up to speed with weekly missions + meet up with our sponsored and social production team.

Morning

On Tuesday morning, I meet with our sponsored and social production team to review upcoming content that needs to be produced. There is usually an additional meeting with an outside party on Tuesdays. Often times, I will also find myself preparing for a photo session or starting to film social content.

Afternoon

If time permits, I try to fit in with the work and remove the tasks from my list if there are any. However, things are a little different this summer. My kids get home at 12:30pm, so Tuesday afternoons are for them. If I still have priority work to be done in the afternoon, I help them prepare something to keep them busy and try to get the job done nearby. I find that design tasks are relatively easy to complete with my kids around, while writing and creating social content is more difficult.

Wednesday

Daily focus: Team meeting + content creation.

Morning

Wednesday mornings are reserved for group meetings. This is often the only opportunity each week I have to meet our entire team at once. We’ll review the analysis, discuss upcoming content, and review any issues or brainstorms we’d like to cover together.

Afternoon

Wednesday afternoons are typically open for content creation, whether it’s filming social content, producing sponsored content, or writing a blog post. I will also post some Instagram stories and reply to messages.

Thursday

Daily focus: Editorial meetings + content creation or internal projects.

Morning

Thursday mornings are devoted to editorial content. I meet with our editorial director to discuss outlines for upcoming blog posts, review the monthly content calendar, and eliminate any editorial tasks I didn’t have time for earlier in the day. week.

Afternoon

Thursday afternoons are usually an open time for me to focus on completing the tasks on my list. It could be related to social content, sponsored content or editorial content, or it could be working on a design project around the house. As always, I will also try to take some time to post and interact on Instagram.

Friday

Daily focus: Dedicated working time + preparing for the weekend.

Morning, afternoon

Friday is a day to complete any unfinished work tasks earlier in the week. There are usually no meetings on this day. I often catch up writing, reviewing content, progress on home projects and posting on Instagram. Sometimes I will also do a few personal errands. If I’m hosting over the weekend, I might as well prepare for that a bit.
