Changes we’ll be making to our colorful home in 2022
Last year was a stressful and expensive year when it came to updating home. It’s a tough one for our family sometimes. Even apart from the health problems in our family, having to relocate for almost six months with kitchen remodeling really took me over the limit. Going through peaks of burnout at the same time taught me a lot about the importance of going slow instead of trying to fit in. ton of projects. While updating the design of our home is part of my job, I’m aiming to be more intentional this year about the projects I choose to tackle.
Below you will find the projects on our list for this year. At the top are all the home updates we’ve planned, with the top three rooms being our main focus. Here are the second-rate projects that may (or may not) happen this year.
The updated homepage we have planned for 2022
Peach Room (pictured above)
Updates planned for 2022: This room will be a major design focus for 2022. We recently added a new carpet into space, would be the first of several changes. We plan to paint the walls, add some new furniture (mostly sofas, benches and side tables), add new chandeliers, add new sconce lights, add large format artwork on an empty wall. facing the fireplace and find the ideal layout. We can also swap out existing chairs and tables for antique versions and add a reclaimed vintage layer to the fireplace.
Estimated progress: Summer 2022
Living room
Updates planned for 2022: We’ve recently added backgrounds, changed trim colors, and swapped out the overhead lights in this room (you will see all this SOON). We also plan to add new blinds, add a new rug, update the flooring, and update some furniture (ideally in ways that increase storage options). I’m also thinking about adding bold graphic artwork and potentially adding a crown molding.
Estimated progress: May 2022
Family Room in Basement
Updates planned for 2022: This year, we plan to paint this space, add wallpaper, swap out some furniture, update the lighting, and update the layout. I also wanted to add some new rugs, add a gallery wall down the stairs, add diy curtains in front of the glass block windows, and add a new air spacer and fireplace, this could be did not happen this year.
Estimated progress: Fall 2022 (This is pushed back from what we originally planned.)
Blue room
Updates planned for 2022: This room This is where I spend most of my time because it’s my office right now. While we probably won’t be doing any major updates here this year, I wanted to add another desk, add blinds, and update the layout.
Estimated progress: Summer 2022
Dining room
Updates planned for 2022: My main priority in this room is to add a new overhead light and potentially add an operating console that is harder to service. We’ll add wallpapers eventually, but maybe not this year.
Estimated progress: Fall/Winter 2022
Main bedroom
Updates planned for 2022: we our bedroom redesign last year and since then have added a few antique pieces that really shine in this space. I only have a few additional updates planned for 2022, mostly adding new bed frames and mattresses. Our current bed frame is beautiful but the material is a bit too thin for two small children and two dogs.
Estimated progress: May 2022
Kid’s bedroom
Updates planned for 2022: Children’s room is redesigned in 2021 and the updates we’ll be making this year are minor. I plan to add curtains and bring in more fresh art. I also want to add some antique chests from time to time. Finally, we could replace the lighting with something larger and add layered rugs on top of the rug.
Estimated progress: Spring / Summer 2022
Low priority home updates (These updates may or may not happen in 2022.)
Main Entrance / Corridor
Possible updates for 2022: If given the opportunity, I would like to add a background image to this space. I also wanted to finish adding crystals to the chandelier in the entry, they were never fully reassembled when it was originally hung.
Children’s bathroom
Possible updates for 2022: This room was updated in 2021. This year, I wanted to add a curtain around the bottom of the sink, which could be a fun DIY project.
Gym in the basement
Possible updates for 2022: This rare room is the one I’ve been spending more time in lately. I want to add racks, update the floor, add a larger mirror, add weights and a rowing machine.
Kitchen
Possible updates for 2022: This is a very low priority. Right now my goal for this space is to maintain the organizational system that I have adopted. At some point, I wanted to add new stools, add ruffled curtains on the windows, and add a dishwasher with a built-in control panel. We could also paint the cabinets navy blue with a lighter color (the cabinet paint has chipped a bit and could use a refresh at some point), although this is yet to be determined.
Exterior / Inner courtyard
Possible updates for 2022: We don’t have plans to update our patio right now, but I would like to rearrange the layout to make it work better for our typical family use. I am also focusing on continuing to clean large garden bed to make way for new trees. We are currently talking to local landscaping companies about the design of our outdoor spaces.
Stay tuned for updates as we go!
