WBA Orders Oleksandr Usyk-Daniel Dubois Heavyweight title fight

With the world’s undisputed heavyweight title fight against Tyson Fury out of the equation, the World Boxing Association has ordered WBA, IBF and WBO heavyweights Oleksandr Usyk to take on Daniel Next Dubois. “The World Boxing Association (WBA) Championship Committee has ordered negotiations for a world title match between Super Heavyweight Champion Oleksaandr Usyk and Champion Daniel Dubois,” the organization said in a statement. Press Release. “Official communication was sent to the parties on Monday. The teams of both boxers will have 30 days to negotiate, starting April 4 and ending at the end of May 2. “
The WBA went on to add that it allowed Usyk and his team to negotiate with Fury and his team, but since that fight clearly didn’t happen, they ordered Usyk to face arrest his compulsion. “The Usyk vs Dubois bout was ordered on December 12, but in the process, Usyk was given some time to negotiate a reunification fight with Tyson Fury,” the press release states. . “However, that fight could not be unified due to differences between the teams and now the WBA ordered the fight to correspond with its plans to reduce the world title.”
The press release added that, if a deal is not done by May 2, the fight could very well lead to a purse bid. If an agreement on Usyk-Dubois cannot be reached by May 2 or either party refuses to negotiate,” the statement stated, “the WBA may put the match up for auction at a 75% split between Usyk and 25% for Dubois.” While this is clearly not the match fans were hoping to see Usyk in next, there’s no denying that Dubois is a perfect fit for the WBA world heavyweight belt.
