It looked as if the two fighters would never meet. After all, lightweight contender Rolando Romero has been accused of sexual abuse by more than one woman, which has left him facing a scheduled battle in December against WBA lightweight player Gervonta “Tank” Davis. However, since that time late last year, Romero has yet to be formally charged. As a result, the WBA once again ordered him and Davis to meet in the ring to contest Davis’ title. “The World Boxing Association (WBA) Championships Committee,” the organization posted on social media Monday, “(was) ordered that the world lightweight title fight between champion Gervonta Davis and mandatory challenger Rolando Romero #DavisRomero. ”
Romero, who ranks as number one contender for Davis’ strap, boasts a 14-0 record with most of his wins being by knockout. And again, none of those wins were against big-name rivals. Davis 26-0, on the other hand is being booked for a star. Although he faces accusations of not being the best fighter out there (as are most of the top boxers in his general weight field), Davis certainly possesses a knife-sharp talent. shave. Hitting fast and extremely hard, the man was known for his mastery of skill.
Davis’ final fight, however, proved to be a real challenge for the Baltimore natives. Isaac Cruz isn’t considered a fool by many, but perhaps few expected to fight Davis as effectively as he did in their December battle. Davis went away with a decisive victory, but failed to display the kind of dominance that fans are used to. Any top boxer can find himself in a tough fight, but Davis is a very modern attraction. In other words – he doesn’t fight often, which means it sticks when he doesn’t perform as expected.
No problem. It would be pretty hard for anyone not to see Davis show up as a favorite for this matchup. Romero’s last game was Anthony Yigit’s seventh stoppage time in July. An outspoken personality, Romero knows how to attract attention, which can turn out to be as effective a promotional tool as a record undefeated (unfortunately). He and Davis must come to an agreement by the 24th of the following month, or else the fight will come to an end. Judging from recent history, fans can expect this fight to be a pay-per-view relationship.
