The world No 1 hit a match on Sunday at the Charles Schwab Challenge. Scottie Scheffler, who started the day right behind the league leaders, clinched 8th at par-3 for the second time in his career. His other trump card was at Byron Nelson 2014 when he was just 17 years old.
More importantly, it assisted a spark Sunday that put him in striking range to top the charts. The trump card came from 189 yards away and was the second of the week (Harris English has another):

Scheffler should win this tournament. He led the field from tee to tee and scored more strokes from tee to green than Harry Hall took in the week. The problem for Scheffler is his batting let him down, a common theme this year. His tee-to-green play was great, but his batting kept him from winning three, four or maybe five times.

It is happening again this week. Scheffler leads the field from tee to green but is almost the last man on the putt. However, he rose to the top of the leaderboard within a few strokes, finishing the event 7 points below.
