Watch how two brothers rescue 23,000 injured birds in a makeshift basement clinic


EASYo Have you ever thought about how a sky full of magnificent kites can become a death trap for innocent birds?

Every year, in the city of Mumbai alone, nearly 1,000 wingless birds fly and are injured during the Makar Sankranti kite festival. In 2018, Gujarat reportedly rescued 4,000 injured birds during the same festival. The use of manjhasare synthetic kite strings coated with metal or glass, which can be fatal to birds flying in the sky.

Brothers Nadeem Shehzad and Mohammad Saud from Delhi first encountered this alarming trend in the 90s, when they rescued an injured black kite by the roadside.

The mission to save a helpless and injured bird set the duo on a path to rescuing 23,000 others through Wildlife Rescue, which has been in business for the past 20 years. Reviving these birds and seeing them fly again is what makes their hearts soar.
