Volvo XC90 2023 price and specifications, detailed update

Locomotive Volvo XC90 received the changes running and the price increased, for the 2023 model year, including Google-based infotainment system as well as an improved plug-in hybrid system for the top-end Recharge variant.

As before, there are four variants offered though now with a new naming structure. Gone are the old Momentum, Inscription, and R-Design trim levels, replaced by the Plus, Ultimate Bright, and Ultimate Dark names.

Key changes include an air filter and power-folding rear head restraints (previously optional) as standard across the range, as well as Volvo’s latest Android Automotive infotainment system with app connectivity. and over-the-air (OTA) software updates.

Final variants also feature a heated steering wheel and heated rear seats as standard and are available in new exterior colors.

All models have been bumped up in price, up to $4500 for the B5 and B6 versions, and $3000 for the T8 Recharge Plug-in Hybrid.

Powertrain

A total of three powertrains are available depending on the variant, including two petrol engines with mild hybrid assistance, as well as a turbocharged plug-in hybrid. All are four-cylinder units.

Input level B5 feature one 2.0 liter turbocharged petrol engine connected to a 48V mild hybrid system. Outputs are rated at 183kW (5400-5700 rpm) and 350Nm (1800-4800 rpm), with 0-100km/h claimed 7.7 seconds.

final T8 Recharge Plug-in Hybrid is one again 2.0 liter turbocharged petrol engine (currently excluding the supercharger) connects to a plug-in hybrid system that combines a rear-mounted electric motor and a lithium-ion battery.

Outputs are rated at 233kW (6000 rpm) and 400Nm (3000-45000 rpm) for gasoline engines and 107kW (15,900 rpm) and 309Nm (0-3280 rpm) for e-motor. Combined, Volvo quote 340kW and 709Nm with 0-100 claims 5.3 seconds.

All versions of the Volvo XC90 in Australia are equipped with an eight-speed automatic transmission and all-wheel drive. Unlike the wider range, the T8 Recharge’s AWD system uses a petrol engine to drive the front wheels and an electronic motor in the rear, to drive all four wheels electrically.

Effective

Volvo XC90 B5 and B6 versions claim to use 8.2L / 100km on the mixed cycle. Emissions are assessed at 187g/km (CO2) for B5 and 186g/km for B6.

Meanwhile, the T8 Recharge PHEV quotes the combined fuel usage of 1.8L / 100kmthough reaching that number requires a full charge 18.8kWh the battery.

Volvo Australia cites zero-emissions driving range of up to 77 km for XC90 T8 Recharge and emissions rating is 77g/km of CO2.

All models are equipped 71 liters gas tank.

Size

Quoted boot space 680 liters for versions B5 and B6, and 610 liters for T8 Recharge.

For towing, the XC90 B5 and B6 models are rated up to 2400kg (brake), with T8 Recharge quote 2350kg.

Service and Warranty

XC90 is powered by five-year, unlimited km warranty.

Furthermore, hybrid models come with an 8-year battery warranty.

Need maintenance 12 months or 15,000km. Three years of maintenance will get you back $1750while five years costs $3000.

Safety

The current-generation Volvo XC90 gets a five-star ANCAP safety rating, but only for diesel models sold between September 2015 and January 2022 – so the latest range is therefore not rated. .

ANCAP safety ratings are based on Euro NCAP testing in 2015, which has now expired under Euro NCAP’s new seven-year validity policy.

It scored 97% for adult occupant protection, 87% for child protection, 72% for pedestrian protection and 73% for safety assistance.
