Volunteer rescues dog trapped in ice pond
When the snow starts to fall in winter and the ponds freeze, you can look at them beautifully. Everything turns into a winter wonderland where it can be cozy and magical from inside a warm home. However, for those who must venture out into the cold, a snowy landscape can present numerous challenges and risks.
Especially for pet owners, cold winter days can make something as simple as walking in the potty a dangerous task.
Pet owners must not only make sure their pets get enough exercise and potty breaks, but also make sure they keep them safe also.
Despite the best efforts of dog or cat owners, pets can sometimes get into precarious situations. They may escape from the backyard or snatch the leash from their owners and get into a dangerous situation.
A dog in Greensburg, Indiana was in a life-or-death situation when he accidentally got lost in a pond covered with a thin layer of ice. The ice was held in place while the dog walked out into the middle of the pond, and then it began to crack.
It wasn’t long before the poor dog was in the middle of an icy pond!
With the temperature so cold, the dog is difficult to swim and needs help as soon as possible. Thankfully, some volunteers with the local fire department heard about the dog and arrived just in time.
The volunteers were thoroughly prepared for their rescue mission and even had special equipment to safely get out of the icy waters. They were able to get to the puppy and bring it back to shore!
The fire department has shared footage of the above rescue Facebook“We had our first ice rescue of the season yesterday. Our team was able to successfully rescue a dog that fell through the ice into a pond. “
Frozen ponds are a real danger in winter, for both pets and people. There are many stories about pets being rescued from ponds and lakes, like dog in New York, the horse in Texas, the Golden retriever in Canada, and deer in Kansas among other stories.
It’s a good reminder to practice winter safety tips with our pets and always keep them on the leash.
