Volkswagen Trinity project – construction of new Wolfsburg factory to start 2023, first car launch in 2026


Volkswagen will build a New factory for myself Trinity The automaker has announced an electric vehicle project near its main production site in Wolfsburg, Germany. The Volkswagen Group has passed a resolution that will invest 2 billion euros (9.07 billion RM) in the development and production of the Trinity Project.

Volkswagen says this new production plant for the Trinity Project will take place in the Warmenau district of Wolfsburg, where construction will begin in the spring of the northern hemisphere 2023 and the first Trinity production vehicle will enter the production line. Export from 2026.

“The Supervisory Board’s decision is an important milestone for our rebranding and the future of the Wolfsburg manufacturing facility. As a result, we are strengthening and maintaining the competitiveness of the main plant and giving the workforce a strong long-term outlook”, said Volkswagen CEO Ralf Brandstätter.

The upcoming new production facility will also serve as a model for the modernization of the main Wolfsburg plant, as well as for all other Volkswagen production sites worldwide, the manufacturer added. Brandstätter says the new plant tasked with Trinity production will have an annual capacity of 250,000 vehicles, in addition to the Wolfsburg main plant’s annual production of 500,000.

With the start of production of the vehicle that will emerge from Project Trinity, Volkswagen aims to achieve a production time of 10 hours each and the key to this is through offering fewer variants, using fewer variants. Using fewer parts and more automation for leaner production lines and using new logistics concepts, it said.

The Trinity project will build on the new SSP platform for Volkswagen Group products, and this is expected to underpin more than 40 million vehicles in the future, Volkswagen said.

SSP will combine elements of MEB and PPE and underpin about 80% of the group’s vehicles

Volkswagen is also investing 800 million euros (RM3.6 billion) in the most advanced research and development center in Europe, and plans to integrate production of electric vehicles based on the state-of-the-art SSP that will be emulated. according to the Trinity production facility at the main Wolfsburg plant by 2030, it said.

The SSP platform for Project Trinity effectively combines the Modular Electric Powertrain (MEB) matrix that underpins the Volkswagen ID and High Performance Electric (PPE) models jointly developed by Audi and Porsche.

According to Volkswagen, the model has been touted as having Level 4 autonomous driving capabilities and will have a much shorter charge time than currently available, while offering a maximum range of more than 700 km.

“We are focusing on innovative and sustainable production concepts. Building a new factory in Warmenau also gives us the opportunity to adapt the existing factory to the future, step by step and top to bottom. Trinity stands for a whole new way of thinking, manufacturing, collaborating,” said Volkswagen board member in charge of production and logistics Christian Vollmer.
