Cody’s Wish Takes Lead in NTRA Poll
Defending Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile (G1) winner and morning-line favorite Cody’s Wish moved atop the National Thoroughbred Racing Association’s Top Thoroughbred Poll for week 40 and could lock down his position this weekend.
Godolphin’s homebred multiple grade 1 winner and 5-year-old son of Curlin edged out the year’s leading 3-year-old, Arcangelo , by two points. Cody’s Wish is the 9/5 morning-line favorite in the Dirt Mile and has two grade 1 wins to his credit this year in the Churchill Downs Stakes (G1) and Metropolitan Handicap (G1).
Arcangelo, who is front-runner for 3-year-old championship honors, had been entered in the Breeders’ Cup Classic (G1) as the morning-line 7/2 second choice but was scratched mid-morning Oct. 31 due to heat in his left hind foot. The morning-line favorite at 3-1 in the Classic is another 3-year-old, Arabian Knight , who ranks sixth in the poll. Raced by Zedan Racing Stables, the son of Uncle Mo has won three of four career starts and last out won the Pacific Classic Stakes (G1) at Del Mar.
Juddmonte Farms’ Elite Power , another defending World Championships winner in the Breeders’ Cup Sprint (G1), moved into the third spot in the poll, switching places with Breeders’ Cup Turf (G1T) contender Up to the Mark from last week’s poll. White Abarrio , a contender in the Classic, is fifth in the poll.
