Video Shows ‘Moment’ Amazon Driver Shot Dog During A Home Delivery

In Alabama, an incident occurred where an Amazon delivery driver shot a dog while making a delivery to a home whose owner, Rose Kirk, claimed she hadn’t ordered anything. The incident unfolded in Hueytown, a locale roughly 15 miles southwest of Birmingham, where police were called to a residence on the 1000 block of 26th Avenue around 5:30 p.m. on a Sunday.

According to a police statement, the confrontation happened when the dog, coming from beneath the home’s porch, approached the delivery person. The police reported that the driver acted in self-defense against the purportedly aggressive dog, firing a single shot to escape the situation before leaving the area. The driver was later interviewed by law enforcement and was not charged, with authorities deeming the action as self-defense.

However, the dog’s owner, Rose Kirk, contested the police’s account, especially the assertion of self-defense. Speaking to WBRC in Birmingham, Alabama, she described a different scene where her dogs, Solar and Lunar, were peacefully resting under the porch. She recounted the shock of hearing a gunshot and discovering Solar wounded, with the bullet entering his shoulder and exiting his chest.

Kirk emphasized that Solar was restrained on a leash and questioned the necessity of the driver’s approach to her porch, especially since she hadn’t ordered a package. She insisted that there was no justification for the delivery person to be on her premises.

In response to the shooting, an online fundraiser was initiated to cover Solar’s medical expenses. Furthermore, the Kirk family has engaged an attorney, Travis McCormick, to delve into the incident, as reported by USA TODAY. McCormick stated that the family’s priority is Solar’s recovery and their emotional healing from the ordeal.

Amazon, addressing the situation, stated through spokesperson Austin Stowe that the driver involved is no longer with the company. Stowe also mentioned that Amazon has been in contact with Kirk and is cooperating with the Hueytown Police Department’s investigation.

Amazon’s policy prohibits employees making deliveries from carrying weapons. Nonetheless, delivery personnel are permitted to carry devices to deter dogs, provided they comply with relevant laws.
