“Vegetarian Dog” Choose Between Meat And Vegetables On Live TV
It’s no secret that our beloved dogs are descendants of wolves. But with their friendly, cuddly behavior and close companionship, we can forget that they are not too far from wildlife.
So when a woman named Lucy vehemently stated that her Husky dog named Storm actually prefers to eat more vegetables than a bowl full of meat, the host of British talk show “This Morning” decided. intend to test this.
It was shortly after a heatwave hit her area and her Husky Storm was feeling particularly picky, so she decided to change up her diet. Lucy’s neighbor, Ben, recently switched his dog from a carnivore to a vegetarian diet. He suggested that she might want to try doing the same thing.
So even though Not A vegetarian herself, Lucy began serving Storm meat-free dog food, while adding in leftovers from her family.
“During the summer months, she strangely stopped eating. She seemed to cheer up, much happier. She really accepted it,” Lucy explained.
Lucy wasn’t the only person interviewed that morning. Veterinarian Scott Miller sat with Lucy on the couch and was asked all his thoughts on a dog being fed a plant-based diet.
When interviewed, he said that he respects people who choose plant-based diets. But he wanted to remind viewers that dogs are not only omnivores (and they thrive when fed both meat and vegetables), that our pets can’t really make that choice on their own.
“It’s a choice… our pets can’t make that choice,” said the vet.
We as caregivers must make informed decisions and ensure that their diet includes all the nutrients they need.
Moment of truth
After Lucy explained that she really believes Storm prefers vegetables to meat, the hosts wanted to test that. So they brought out two dog bowls full of food. One was filled with vegetables and the other was filled with meat.
To his owner’s confusion, the hungry Husky rushed to the bowl full of meat. Storm rushed in with amusement, as his mother sat there shocked.
As you can imagine, viewers reacted strongly to the seven-minute segment. Comments almost immediately began to flood in and a lot of people felt like sharing their thoughts. Reactions ranged from joking to sarcastic, with some calling Lucy’s feeding choices “animal cruelty”.
