Valve is updating Half-Life for the Steam Deck

Valve is working on upgrading some of their more popular games for the Steam Deck, optimizing the controls and interface for better play on their upcoming mobile device, the Steam Deck. The Half-life series, Dota 2, and Counter Strike: Global Offensive, have or will receive upgrades designed to make them a “better experience”.

In an interview with RPS fanzine fun PC Gamers, several of Valve’s designers explained their efforts to improve the game experience on the treated PC. Valve has added gamepad support to Dota 2and many more tweaks are planned for others.

Designer Greg Coomer told PCG: “Even if the core experience in Half-Life games is pretty slick with a controller, a lot of the stuff around the experience tends to be left out or underrated. shadow as before”.

Likewise, PCG says CS:GO will polish the game’s existential gyroscope objective and refine elements like the radial menu. “The team is really coming up with that new polish and design intent,” says Coomer.

Valve designer Lawrence Yang added that the Portal games have worked well on mobile, although they could also adapt Left 4 Dead 2. “I think we wanted to look at all the titles. Valve’s section to make sure everything is going well on the Deck,” he told PCG.

Coomer also tell PCG that Valve still expects to launch the system in February 2022, before that need to delay it due to a global shortage of computer chips.

“We feel like we’re on the right track for that,” he said. “We are still apprehensive that we have to move from the end of this year to early next year. But yes, all indications are that we could ship in February.”
