Usyk-Joshua 2 confirmed, August 20 in Saudi Arabia
It’s finally official: The world heavyweight title rematch between Oleksandr Usyk and Anthony Joshua will take place on August 20 in Jeddah, Saudi Arabia.
A months-long bout will mark Joshua’s boxing debut on DAZN after it was announced on Monday that he signed a deal with the streaming service. The new chapter for Joshua marks the end of his long association with Sky Sports.
A new broadcast contract and a new coach are also in his corner for Joshua, who is looking to reclaim the three belts he lost against Usyk last September. Farewell to longtime coach Robert McCracken, Joshua’s top vocalist on August 20th will Robert Garcia.
While Brits have had a busy 2022, Usyk has been a miserable year. The Ukrainian took a break from his boxing career in March to stand with his compatriots in the fight against Russian aggression towards his country.
In April after leaving Ukraine to start training for Joshua vs Usyk talk about war revealed that friends were missing and relatives lost their homes.
“I have to get rid of such thoughts as much as possible to prepare well for the fight with Joshua,” he said at the time.
Since then, it has been operating as usual in the camp on August 20.
Usyk hopes to repeat the performance he put on last year, when he overcame Joshua at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium to become the WBA, IBF and WBO world heavyweight champion.
The winner of the August 20 rematch could tempt retired WBC champion Tyson Fury to fight the mammoth later this year.
