Use the Mood Board for fashion photography
In this video, Lindsay Adler teaches her how to pre-plan, shoot, and post-process a themed photo session, and explains from start to finish how to recreate the shot.
A lot of photographers skip or don’t spend enough time in the pre-shoot planning phase. Lindsay mentions how she uses mood boards in the pre-planning phase to do two things: 1) Present ideas for a magazine or 2) Share and spark ideas from her creative team that. She shows how she uses Canva or Pinterest to save the images and organize them to show the direction of the hairstyle, makeup, poses, wardrobe and lighting that she will be doing during her photo shoots.
For this shoot, she planned a shoot called “Fuchsia Fantasy” with deep pink tones in her makeup, backdrop, and wardrobe. When setting up the lighting for the shoot, she explains step-by-step her choices for the main light, including the modifiers she wants to use and the light placement. Next, she shows the importance of adding extra lights to further accentuate the tones in the wardrobe. And finally, she shows how she creatively effects the backdrop to get a look that blends in perfectly with the wardrobe.
After the shoot, she walks through the post-processing in Capture One and Photoshop. The tips on color grading in Capture One are especially helpful.
