In just a few days, several humanitarian societies across the United States received a large shipment of Beagles from a test facility. Beagles were bred specifically for testing, so groups include many puppies and adult females. Now, these dogs will receive love for the first time in their lives.
It’s unclear if all of these Beagles are from the same testing facility, but it seems like an unusual coincidence if they aren’t. Due to ongoing investigations, no shelter has released its name or location. All that matters now is that these adorable dogs find the perfect permanent homes!
Dozens of animal trials escape the Beagles
The Wisconsin Humane Society get 30 Beagles, The Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (RISPCA) received 40 and Animal Humane Society in Minnesota is caring for 23. Beagles come in all different ages and temperaments, but one thing they all have in common is that they were all bred for animal testing.
There may be more humane societies that used Beagles, but these three are the ones that are being covered by the news sites. Sadly, Beagles are the most popular breed used for testing as they are usually small and docile making them easy to control. But no dog deserves a life of cruelty.
Angela Speed told the Humane Society of Wisconsin: “Beagles live in confined, unsanitary conditions – possibly with very little ability to communicate with humans. “This particular group needs extra medical care and behavioral support.”
Beagles seem to range from 8 weeks old to 8 years old. Some adult Beagles can become pregnant. Volunteers expect the dogs to be shy and withdrawn, but the younger ones seem to enjoy being free. Some older children are still shy and overwhelmed, so they will need a lot of patience.
Give the Beagle a home!
Every humane society has a different process, but soon all Beagles will be adopted and looking for the perfect place to live for the rest of their lives. Anyone willing to adopt, foster, volunteer or donate would be greatly appreciated at all of these organizations.
“We have never abandoned a large number of animals that come from a medical facility, so this is new to us,” said RISPCA President Wayne Kezirian. “Interestingly, our understanding is that a lot of times, these animals are severely socialized.”

Most of these Beagles will need serious medical attention before they are adopted. So each dog’s timeline will be different based on their condition. Some have been approved or suspended due to the sheer volume of applications.
