The 2023 US Open continues on Friday with three days of pristine golf at the Los Angeles Country Club. Hosting the national championship for the first time in 75 years, the LACC saw some of the best golfers in the game post record low numbers on Thursday to create a leaderboard. it will be interesting to follow the next 54 holes. Follow along with live US Open rankings coverage in Round 2.

The expectation as we head into the 123rd game of the US Open is that Scottie Scheffler, Jon Rahm and Brooks Koepka will duel with the rest of the starting court looking up at them. Instead, Rickie Fowler and Xander Schauffele took the lead after making US Open history by shooting 62 seconds in the first round. Those scores match the lowest ever in a major championship round with Branden Grace previously scoring 62 points in the third round of the 2017 Open Championship.

It remains to be seen whether Fowler and/or Schauffele can continue to play at the weekend, but Fowler made a strong start to the second half on Friday. Putting pressure on the leaders was Rory McIlroy, who raced past three points on Friday to secure third place as he entered the clubhouse. This is the first time since the 2014 PGA Championship that he has won, McIlroy has hit consecutive rounds at 67 or below to open a major.
