Updates coming to Tesla’s biggest cars

Tesla has given its aging Model S and Model X some updates for 2023.

Revealed on Twitter, the updates to the Model S and X include a revised glass roof, new paint colors and the return of the traditional steering wheel.

The automaker has published a video showcasing the $3000 Ultra Red exterior finish (AU$4,562.70).

The company says the standard glass roof is now lighter and lets in five times more light, but retains the same level of UV protection.

It also claims the glass roof improves the vehicle’s handling as it helps lower the center of gravity compared to the old roof.

Customers turned down by the controversial yoke can once again order their Model S or Model X with round steering wheel.

Model S and X Plaid variants receive improved brake pads with higher heat capacity for better braking performance.

Tesla recently announced significant price cuts of up to 9.1% on the Model S and Model X for the US market, saying customers are getting “more features for less”.

The company has been experimenting with discounts and price increases over the past few months.

“We’ve found that even small changes in price have a big, huge effect on demand,” said Tesla CEO Elon Musk.

The Model S and Model X are still on sale in Australia. Although Tesla announced in 2021 that it would return in 2022, this did not materialize.

It is unclear when the automaker will reopen orders. Company removed prices from local website in March 2022although you can still make a one-time deposit.
