(Update) Alabama Bureau of Regulatory Affairs Says Kastellio Vaughan “Refused Medical Evaluation & Treatment” After August Surgery


Days after photos of the emaciated Kastellio Vaughan surfaced online, the Alabama Department of Corrections said he “repeatedly denied [a] medical assessment and medical treatment. “

The press released information about Vaughan’s medical records and published with his consent.

Records reveal that the 32-year-old man had surgery on August 5, 2022. After the procedure, he decided to be “discharged on medical advice.”

Reports also revealed that the organization was unable to force Vaughan to receive medical treatment.

Family acquires Lee Meritt as their attorney

If you recall, his family kept attorney Lee Meritt on hold to investigate allegations of neglect after they shared photos of him severely malnourished on Facebook.

Attorney Merritt released a press release saying that Kastellio had been transferred from the Elmore correctional facility in Elmore County, Alabama, to the Stranton correctional facility in Montgomery.

Attorney Merritt made clear his plan to bring justice to his client in the press release.

It reads:

Alabama prisons have a duty to provide appropriate medical care to Mr. Vaughan during his incarceration. Prisoners enjoy the same basic personality as everyone else in our country. My office has begun work to ensure that Mr. Vaughan receives remedial action for his condition.

It continues:

We are also investigating whether the ages of Alabama violated their duty of care to Mr.Vaughan by allowing his medical condition to Spyro to the extent reflected in it. The images are currently circulating online.
