Andy Cohen clarifies John Mayer’s friendship comments

Andy Cohen wants everyone to calm down about his brotherhood with John Mayer. On the June 22 episode of “Radio Andy,” Cohen clarified remarks he made about falling in love with his friend during an interview with Howard Stern earlier this month. After the interview, his comments led to quite a bit of media attention, but the “Watch What Happens Live” host suggested that people need to calm down.

Cohen said: “I was on Howard Stern last week and he asked me about my friendship with John Mayer and I said, ‘Yeah, you know,’ saying casually and casually that we’re love each other. “It became the news headlines and the more it became headline news, the more upset I felt. You know why? Aren’t two men allowed to say they’re in love? We’re all Are they all too messy?”

He went on to share a story about how his college roommate was the first straight man to tell Cohen he loved him. Cohen explained that he was struck by his friend’s statement that was “very pure and genuine, but not obscene”. “That’s why I just thought the two boys’ friendship, that doesn’t seem like headline news to me…” he continued. “At first, I thought it was a bit lazy like ‘Oh, that’s a lazy title.’ Yes, I said freely that we loved each other and then as long as I could, I said, ‘You know, you need to get rid of yourself.'”

Cohen made headlines when he told Stern on SiriusXM’s “The Howard Stern Show” that he and Mayer were “in love”. However, the Bravo presenter also clarified that there was never a sexual relationship between him and his longtime friend.

It’s unclear exactly how long Cohen and Mayer have been friends, but they were first spotted hanging out together in 2012. Since then, Mayer has spoken at Cohen’s Hollywood Walk of Fame ceremony, attended her friend’s baby shower and appeared several times on “Watch What Happens Live.” As for what ties the duo together, Cohen revealed in a 2022 interview with Entertainment Tonight that both are devoted Grateful Dead fans.

“I’d say the Grateful Dead brought us a lot closer, because I was already a big fuck, and he started getting into them and then imagining when your friend started playing with you your favorite music, someone you thought you’d never see again.” he say. “And now, you can actually tour with them. So that’s also an important start to things.”
