UK launches new visa for world’s top graduates
Graduates from the world’s top colleges, who are still early in their careers, will now be able to apply for a short-term visa to stay and work in the UK.
From Monday, the UK government has said those who have graduated, in the past five years, from one of the top universities are eligible. listed on its websitewill be able to apply for a UK “high potential individual” visa.
Successful applicants will be granted a two-year visa, while those with a doctorate will be granted a three-year visa. Graduates who are granted an HPI visa will also be able to switch to another long-term work visa, if they meet the eligibility requirements.
Graduates’ partners and children can also apply to join or stay with them in the UK
To apply, graduates will need a valid passport or other travel document showing their identity and nationality. It will be available to eligible persons regardless of their nationality or place of birth. Candidates will also have to demonstrate that they have at least a “B1” level of English, where they can communicate with native speakers without effort.
The visa application fee is £715 ($904), along with £210 to verify that their degree is valid, or £252 if they are applying from the UK
In addition, applicants will have to pay a healthcare surcharge to be able to use the UK’s National Health Service, usually £624 for each year they are in the UK. by showing they have at least £1,270 in their bank account, although this can be waived.
Applicants will usually find out if they are successful within 3 weeks if they are applying from outside the UK and 8 weeks if they are already in the UK and are switching from another visa.
