Uber launches new family, group features to simplify travel experience

Uber ride-hailing giant announced a series of new features Wednesday morning aimed at simplifying group and family trips, among other triggers, through its annual product rollout, Get.

As for families, Uber users can soon set up family profiles to link multiple Uber accounts, including accounts for teens ages 13 to 17. This allows younger users to book their own rides and Uber Eats meals under adult supervision through a family account.

As of May 22, teen accounts for trips will be available in select cities in the US and Canada, followed by teen account on Uber Eats. This way, these passengers can also order meals through their parents or carers’ accounts.

Regarding safety and security concerns for teens booking rides in the app, Uber said only “experienced and highly regarded drivers are eligible to complete rides with teens” while implementing additional built-in privacy safety features, including a live trip tracking app for parents and a feature for parents to contact drivers directly during their trip Go.

Also for families, Uber users in New York City And Los Angeles will soon be able to book Uber Car Seats. This means they can request and book a ride with Nuna Rava car seatSuitable for babies weighing between 5 and 65 pounds.

Uber announced three other group travel features, including Group Grocery Orders, where Uber users can collaborate with other users — such as roommates, family, or friends — on Uber Eats grocery orders. Uber will text participants a link to add items to a shared cart while automatically splitting the bill at most stores without the need to use a third-party app, such as Venmo or Splitwise, to do so.

Additionally, Uber users in select cities can invite others to add their addresses to a group ride while automatically updating stops for individual pick-ups. This will automatically split the fare per person based on ride time, again eliminating the need to split the cost outside of the app.

One of the most exciting and perhaps unexpected rollouts announced Wednesday is Uber Boat. Starting this summer, this program will facilitate ordering a boat for up to eight people in Greek to cruise to the islands around Mykonos.
